This review contains SPOILERS for Chapter 1.

Let me start by saying that the concept is really cool! Having to explore a disney-like amusement park with these monsters is pretty cool. The map design is pretty cool, it definitely takes inspiration from Main Street in the disney parks, which I think is fun. the character designs are neat conceptually, I definitely think these characters can be really cool the more we see of them.

But if I am being completely honest, I feel like this could have been a bit better.

There were a few moments in this chapter that personally felt like were not done very well. The lion character, for example, I assume was supposed to be the first major threat we face, and the developers began quickly hyping him up for the back stage sequence. But the execution somewhat flopped. I think completely showing him right away when entering the theater was not the best approach, and we rarely had any encounters with him that made him feel intimidating. If anything, I found it more funny when he nearly crushed himself, which really harmed the fear factor.

When it comes to the bird, I also feel like the execution wasn't the best. I assumed from the first moment we see them in the backstage that they would act almost like a stalker antagonist, but the only other time I saw them before the chase sequence was when they were seemingly stuck inside of a slide, not moving.

The chase itself wasn't very intimidating. As other reviewers have stated, having the game in first person makes it so I have no knowledge of how far away the bird was to me during it, and because of this I didn't find it thrilling or scary. I assumed from how quickly I was going through it I was in no danger, which proved to be right as I was able to complete the chase in one attempt.

I really want this game to succeed. I think the team has something really neat here, but I building up the suspense and environmental storytelling could really benefit the experience. Luckily, with this only being the first chapter, I hope the team behind Indigo Park read the feedback and improve the experience with their future chapters.

I'll start by saying I would prefer to call this a "mixed" review. Also, as a side note, I have no experience playing with others in this game as I chose to play it solo, so I will not talk on the potential issues players came across with that as I experienced none.

When I watched gameplay of this title for the first time, I was a bit skeptical about it, but also thought it looked pretty interesting. The movement seemed really fun, and although the gunplay appeared kind of basic, I was still interested in it and ended up trying it out for myself.

Overall, I thought it was fine.

I played it at my own pace, and genuinely had a lot of fun travelling through Metropolis. Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang were my favorites to play as while exploring, though I ended up finding each character's movement abilities and bonuses interesting enough. Plus, for me, it rarely felt like a chore to swap to another character for a mission for bonus experience. Gunplay and combat was fine, I definitely think the amount of effects you see on the screen can be a bit much at times, and the enemy characters could definitely use an AI improvement. But, I still enjoyed dashing around the field and shooting a ton of enemies.

The story is okay. Aside from a lot of the known issues from public reviews, I really didn't mind the story, a bit cookie-cutter, but it wasn't really trying to be anything exceptional. Personally, I wasn't as upset with the premise, though still respect those who were. For example, I definitely feel like the ending of Arkham Knight was a better sendoff for Batman, but I also believed that it wouldn't really be the last time we see him, or the developers will find some way to make him a bigger character later for the game. I knew going into this game that we would be killing the Justice League, considering it's in the name. So when it came to the moments where characters like Batman died, I stayed fairly neutral about it. However, I do also understand that seeing these beloved characters die in such blunt and uninteresting ways does damage their story, so I can definitely see that that aspect of the game could have been better.

All in all, I thought it was pretty fun. Definitely not the best game I've played this year so far, but was still entertaining enough for me to have a good time. Movement was very satisfying, and the gunplay was still entertaining enough to keep me playing for a decent amount of time. If you're willing to look past some of the plot line's flaws, I think you can still find things about this game to enjoy. Though. similar to other reviews, I'd likely recommend waiting for it to go on sale.

This is the first Souls-like game that I have played from start to finish. After multiple hours of exploring and fighting enemies, I can only give this game praise. From unique and interesting boss fights to the beautiful world around it, Elden Ring is without a doubt one of the best game I've played in a long time. If you're willing to put in the hours to master enemies that will beat you up time and time again, the satisfaction of finally beating them is immeasurable. Aside from a few graphical issues I had when I first picked up this game, I'm giving Elden Ring a solid 9.5/10, and highly recommend fans of the Souls franchise to pick this one up.

It's gonna be your best friend in the first half, really make you wish you never started using it in the second, but in the end what really mattered were the friends you made along the way.
