Not a fan of Dota, but this is actually pretty cool

Great game overall
The story is captivating with plenty of mystery, action and intriuge, but sometimes suspension of disbelief is necessary. Also the story bits start to slow down in the 2nd Act, which seems to reflect the creative differences between Konami and Kojima.
Gun play is good with plenty of variety. Vehicles are a fun addition, but need controls are very wonky.
The ability to chose between companions, load and quiet mission approaches and all the random envrionmental affects make every mission new and exciting.

First of let me say this game is far from perfect. There are plenty of bugs, missing content and of course the plain stupid AI. However, none of those things stopped me from having fun in Hearts of Iron 4. This was the first Paradox Interactive game I really got invested in and I definitely did not regret it. I tried Victoria 2, but I failed to grasp all of its complex intrecacies and I heard HOI 3 was very complicated, so I was extremely relived to find that HOI 4 is relatively easy to learn. But once you learn the basics, there is so much more depth to explore, like the division designer.

The most fun that can be gotten from HOI 4 is if you enjoy roleplaying as various nations during WW2 and all the "what if" scenarios that can be had with this game. The modding community as well if flourishing, bringing so much more depth to the game. One of my personal favorites being The Great War mad and playing as Austria-Hungary. The amount of flavour mods add to the game also highlights one of the game's flaws. Paradox are again using their DLC centered buisness model, in which they slowly build on the base game until is finally becomes a masterpiece. Only the major nations and Poland have unique Focus Trees and flavoured units in the tech tree. All other minor nations are mostly the same, having the same research, National focus tree, etc.

The greatest flaw that people point out when talking about the game is the really bad AI. They get encircled all the time, expose vulnerbale flanks, fortify unimportant flanks and overall is just pretty useless. Hopefully after Paradox finishes the Together to Victory expansion they can focus on fixing the AI. Some other things that could be improved is the amount of lag the longer the game goes on due to the amount of units and the lack of a proper ending or score screen.

While far from finished, right now HOI 4 is a good base. There is a lot already to do and with some time it will undoubtedly become the best WW2 strategy game of this decade.

Great Game, Great Mods, Great Dragons, Great Everything

Amazing Game that you WILL get addicted to. Also has an amazing sound track which might be a big reason of this games succes.
