Half-Life 2 Downfall is a Source Mod released in 2017.

The story takes place around White Forest,
we once again play as Gordon Freeman who must help the Resistance fight the Combine.

The mod is in the purest Half-Life 2 Episode Two style.
You'll have to cross White Forest, partly with the help of the Muscle Car,
and kill the Combine Soldiers patrolling the area and the creatures from Xen,
using the already well-known weapons from Half-Life 2.
Then we enter a coal mine and… nothing more,
the second chapter having never been released.
The levels offered are few and short, but have a clever and pleasant level design.

Downfall had all the assets to be a quality mod,
and could almost be seen as a lost chapter of HL2:EP2.
But unfortunately it is far too short, and confined to a single chapter.
The ending in the form of a cliffhanger leaves the player wanting more.

I contacted the creator of the Mod, "marnamai",
to ask him if a second chapter was still on the cards. He answered me:

"I've long moved on from DownFall and Source 1. I haven't touched it since 2017.
In the mean time, I did a few maps for Half-Life Alyx (see my workshop) and have been working for Ubisoft since 2018, DownFall actually helped me land my job there."
