WRC 4 FIA World Rally Championship is a Rally racing game developed by Milestone, which covers the 2013 season of the famous WRC championship.

Career mode includes numerous WRC, WRC 2, WRC 3 and, for the first time, Junior WRC events.

The championship includes numerous "special stages" in a multitude of countries, including France, Great Britain, Australia, Portugal, Mexico, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Argentina…

This gives the opportunity to ride different types of tracks, each with a different grip, whether on asphalt, gravel, dirt or snow…

After completing two races, you will have the opportunity to repair different parts of your vehicle, as well as change some settings if you wish.

Many cars are at your disposal, such as the Citroën DS3, the Peugeot 207, the Ford Fiesta, the Subaru Impreza, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X, the Mini Cooper…

You will have to obtain a better time on each track than the best legendary drivers such as, among others, Sébastien Loeb, Thierry Neuville, Robert Kubica and Sébastien Ogier.…

Although it is marketed as a pure rally simulation, the driving is actually very arcade-like, with the cars feeling light and easy to drive.

The game offers thrills, especially when using the interior camera which gives the very exhilarating impression of being a real pilot.

The environmental graphics are correct without being magnificent, unlike the character modeling which seems to come straight out of the Playstation 2 era.

It is also regrettable that the game's servers are offline, depriving the game of its multiplayer modes and at the same time preventing certain achievements from being unlocked.

WRC 4 FIA World Rally Championship is a very nice game, especially since it is available at a low price.

Its arcade piloting will especially satisfy amateur pilots for many hours.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a simulation, prefer the more modern episodes of the franchise.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call Of Pripyat is developed by GSC Game World and released in 2007.
It is a mix of FPS, RPG and Survival, in an open world.
This third installment is the sequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl released three years earlier.

The plot takes place in 2012, shortly after the events of the first game.
Believing they had in their possession a reliable map of the anomalies of the Exclusion Zone, the army launched Operation Fairway: they sent 5 helicopters towards the Chernobyl power plant. But the mission takes an unexpected turn: all the devices end up crashing for no apparent reason.
The SBU dispatches Major Alexander Degtyarev of the SBU, dressed as a Stalker, to investigate the Zone and try to elucidate the mystery of the helicopter crashes...

The macabre ghost town of Pripyat and its surroundings provide the explorable environment for this third adventure.
Unlike Shadow Of Chernobyl and Clear Sky which offered the same environments, with a slightly different look depending on the game, Call Of Pripyat has a completely new map.
It is smaller than in previous games, and is divided into three fairly large sectors: Zaton, Yanov (nicknamed "Jupiter") and obviously Pripyat.

The atmosphere emanating from the Zone is still as dark and gloomy, thanks to the artistic direction that is magnificent, despite a fairly old engine.
The environment is desolate, covered in swamps, arid and cracked lands, abandoned industrial zones, disused military bases, rusty vehicle wrecks...
The surroundings of Pripyat will never cease to haunt you.
The ambiance is enhanced by a sublime soundtrack, very rock and orchestral during the fights, and calm and gloomy during the exploration phases.

The gameplay is purely and simply identical to the two previous games, Shadow Of Chernobyl and Clear Sky.
It is a clever mix of missions, exploration and survival that has proven itself admirably.
You must properly manage your weapons, ammunition, food and medicine.
Degtyarev mainly completes quests for Bandits and missions for Military, such as stealing documents, recovering weapons, freeing hostages, hunting mutants, finding specific artifacts and many others things.
The fights are as dynamic as in Clear Sky, even if there is no longer a war between the different factions, as if a truce had been signed between the different parties. Furthermore, the developers had the good idea to rebalance the AI, which no longer spams grenades excessively. Human enemies seem fewer in number, unlike mutants, who are even more varied than before.

It is finally possible to equip two rifles at the same time, which is really not too much given the immense number of enemies that awaits you.
Powerful emissions from the Chernobyl Power Plant occur from time to time, forcing the Major and all the Stalkers lurking in the Zone to hide in a safe place.
The Major has the option of sleeping in a hideout, which saves time between two missions, or gets through the night more quickly.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call Of Pripyat is the perfect synthesis of the franchise, the game revives the horrific atmosphere of Shadow Of Chernobyl, while offering great moments of action and combat like Clear Sky.
This is clearly one of the best open world FPS games available on PC, as demanding as it is rich in content.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky is developed by GSC Game World and released in 2008.
It is a mix of FPS, RPG and Survival, in an open world.
This second opus is a prequel to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl released a year earlier.

The plot takes place in 2011, 25 years after the Chernobyl incident, and 5 years after the second explosion.
Since the second disaster, powerful energy emissions have emanated from the plant,
causing death and devastation in their wake.
A stalker and mercenary named Scar leads an expedition of ecological scientists, who study the results generated by these cataclysms.
While the next emission is supposed to happen in more than two months, it arrives suddenly, taking the entire team by surprise.
A suspicious and unusual activity of human origin seems to be at the origin of these new disasters...
"Scar" miraculously survived, and is taken in by members of the Clear Sky faction.
Pleasantly surprised by the Stalker's speedy recovery, the leader of the faction then sent him on a mission to support his troops.
This will lead you to work for different factions with their own motivations, such as Freedom, Duty, Loners, while fighting the hostiles such as the Military, the Bandits, but also the Mutants and Zombies who swarm in the most remote and radioactive places.
Will you try to curry favor with one faction at the expense of the others, or will you prefer to maintain cordial relations with each of them?

This second excursion around the nuclear power plant takes on a slightly warmer appearance than before.
The weather seems milder, calmer, with less bad weather and rarer storms.
The Zone is dressed in its most beautiful autumnal finery, with fields and forests in beautiful orange and brown hues.
But make no mistake, this new post-apocalyptic journey is not a rural stroll...
The wastelands are still gloomy, arid, littered with the ruins of dilapidated buildings and rusty carcasses of abandoned vehicles...
While most locations are easily recognizable to veterans of the first game, there are new, previously unexplored locations to discover.

Shadow Of Chernobyl excelled with its oppressive, distressing and paranormal atmosphere, Clear Sky is much more action-oriented than its predecessor.
Indeed, this installment gives pride of place to territorial wars between the different factions that populate the Zone.
You will often have to support Stalkers in combat, capture enemy faction bases, but also find weapons and stolen equipment, etc.
But don't lose sight of your main objective: you must prevent by all means the intrusion of a group of Stalkers into the Chernobyl power plant...

On the gameplay side, Clear Sky doesn't change the fundamentals brought by Shadow of Chernobyl, while bringing some minor modifications and new features.
It is now possible to repair your armor, your weapons and improve them at a mechanic, customizing them by adding better parts.
The weapons are identical to SOC except for three new ones: a pistol, a shotgun and a machine gun.
The HUD and inventory have been redesigned and corrected, they are now more intuitive.
A guide can take the character to another sector of the Zone, doing a sort of fast travel, but this obviously has a cost that differs depending on which Stalker you ask.
Good quality items are harder to find and are very expensive from merchants, which accentuates the survival aspect of the game.
The AI has progressed a lot, the enemies are much more devious and offensive, they attack in groups, spam grenades with diabolical precision, hide when they feel threatened, they are not there to make up the numbers.
You have to use a detector to try to find artifacts that are invisible to the naked eye, but they are often located near Anomalies...
The number of artifacts you can equip is limited depending on your armor, the more elaborate it is, the more you can carry, up to a maximum of five.
At night, the Zone is extremely dark since it has no lighting, making exploration slower and combat much more difficult.

The OST of this second S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is of excellent quality, with very rocking combat music, sinister ambient melodies, and magnificent themes for each faction.
Like for example the legendary “Bandit Radio” adored by fans, which is today a meme and an anthem of the franchise.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky is a worthy prequel to the original game.
The FPS/RPG/Survival formula is enhanced by a good dose of action.
This second game is still aimed at an audience of hardcore gamers,
who are not put off by the sometimes frustrating difficulty and the slow pace of progression.
Clear Sky is reserved for fans of rich and complex games.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow Of Chernobyl is developed by GSC Game World and released in 2007.
It is a mix of FPS, RPG and Survival, in an open world.

In 2006, a second explosion of unknown origin occurred at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
It was of such magnitude that almost everything around it was reduced to ruins.
Worse still, this produced curious meteorological disturbances, and the appearance of unexplained phenomena...
The plot takes place in 2012. While driving his truck during a powerful storm, the driver is struck by lightning.
Unconscious and amnesiac, his only distinctive element is his "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." tattoo. and a PDA that reads "Kill The Strelok".
So nicknamed "Marked One" by the people who saved him, the anonymous Stalker hopes to gradually recover his memory.
It's with this idea in mind that he sets off in search of different missions for different factions in the Zone...

The Exclusion Zone between Chernobyl and Pripyat is your field of action.
It is a gigantic, sinister and desolate open world, intersected by several distinct regions (Yantar, Dark Valley, Agroprom, Pripyat, Chernobyl, etc.), requiring a short loading time, a bit like Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines or Postal 2. The terrible cataclysmic events have transformed these once prosperous towns and villages into veritable fields of ruins, littered with destroyed buildings, rusty vehicles left abandoned, and corpses of all kinds. This dismal environment is however not devoid of life, a lot of Stalkers from various factions (Duty, Freedom, Loners...) live there despite everything, fighting against Bandits, Soldiers, equally Mutants, and even Zombies…
"Anomalies" dot the terrain, these are strange energetic phenomena presenting an electrical, incendiary, explosive or even gravitational danger…
They are found almost everywhere in the Zone, and although they are sometimes difficult to identify,
hearing your Geiger counter panicking will be enough to alert you to the surrounding threat.
The weather is hardly more reassuring, it is often even terrible, because the region is regularly hit by torrential rains and terrible storms, day and night. Not to mention all the strange and inexplicable sound effects, as well as the sinister screams and growls you'll have to endure...

Surviving in the Zone is not an easy thing, you will have to explore the most dangerous areas in order to complete many varied missions,
such as freeing a place from any hostile presence, killing specific targets, stealing and delivering secret documents, find artifacts...
This is why you must prepare yourself as best as possible before leaving on a mission, and make the best use of what you have.
Health is obviously the most important thing, so make sure you have medikits, anti-radiation medications, bandages, food, etc.
The PDA is very useful, since it allows you to view the Zone map, your mission objectives, as well as various information about the world around you.
You will have to collect, buy, or trade the equipment and supplies necessary for your journey around the power plant.
You must obtain weapons and ammunition to face all the threats present in these wastelands.
The armament is also plethoric: Pistols (Desert Eagle, Makarov, and more), SMGs (MP5), Assault Rifles (AK, G36, Groza, AS VAL...), Sniper Rifles (VSS Vintorez, Dragunov), Rocket Launchers, Experimental Weapons (Gauss Rifle), etc.
You can only use two weapons at a time: a Pistol in the first slot, you choose any weapon in the second.
You can also equip up to five artifacts at the same time in the third slot of your inventory.
These strange items grant beneficial supernatural properties, such as increasing your health, improving your stamina, strengthening your resistance to radiation, making your bullets more armor-piercing, reducing bleeding from wounds, etc.
Some artifacts are very widespread and therefore little sought after, while the rarest can be bought at a high price from savvy Stalkers and Merchants...
But don't expect to carry all this gear with you, your inventory is limited to 50kg, a weight that you can slightly exceed to the detriment of your speed.
However, be careful not to overload it, if you reach 60kg you simply won't be able to move!
You can carry a little more if you have the Exoskeleton, the best of the many protective suits available.
Knowing all this, think carefully when organizing your inventory…
Consider getting rid of weapon ammunition that is incompatible with those you use, sell your unnecessary equipment, etc.
Prioritizing the equipment strictly necessary for your survival is a golden rule of the perfect Stalker.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a fairly austere and particularly demanding game, old-fashioned and even rustic, of which only hardcore gamers would be able to benefit from its full potential.
We are very far from a casual and mainstream, cinematic and spectacular FPS.
The difficulty is sometimes unbalanced, the combat is slow, requires tactics and patience, a bit like in the first Far Cry.
The Zone is gigantic, and every trip is done on foot, there are no vehicles or fast travel.
The weapons are mostly weak and imprecise (especially in automatic mode), they can jam randomly during shootouts, and even get damaged if you use them a lot.
The enemies are clever, very precise and do a lot of damage.
If you run too much, you will slow down due to fatigue, and if you persist, you won't even be able to walk long enough to catch your breath!
But all these are absolutely not flaws, they are even qualities which give it an authentic charm,
it's game made by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, who have the desire to engage in a great game in every sense of the word.
This is an unmissable game for FPS veterans, to own without any hesitation.

Chernobylite is developed by the Farm 51 and released in 2021.
It is a clever mix of FPS and RPG,
while mixing horror, survival and science fiction elements.

The player embodies Igor Khymynuk, a brilliant scientist turned "Stalker" in search of his fiancée Tatyana Amalieva (modeled after the divine Joanna Tarasek, Miss Śląska 2017), who disappeared after the Chernobyl incident in 1986.
Igor still hears the sweet voice of his beloved, who seems to want to guide him on his journey.
But is this pretty familiar voice only in Igor's head, or is it real?
The heavily irradiated "Exclusion Zone" between Chernobyl and Pripyat is your adventure playground.
Many NAR mercenaries patrol there, but what are they defending?
The research and mastery of Chernobylite, an element with supernatural properties, is undoubtedly the key to all this mystery...
The fascinating plot gives rise to a narrative rich in twists and turns.

Your main quest is therefore to find any clue that will bring you closer to Tatyana, whether laconic writings from the Soviet era mentioning her, objects that belonged to her, or magnificent photos of said young lady.

The different secondary missions offer multiple objectives, such as stealing resources (food, medicine, ammunition, etc.), helping Stalkers in distress, destroying important NAR equipment to harm their activities and many other things.

The quests are not linear, you can choose to play the missions in the order you want.
Each important objective achieved will make you progress in the main plot.

Throughout his adventures, Igor will ally himself with companions of fortune, other Stalkers each having their own history, their own motivations, and their own character, which makes them endearing and unique.
Ensure their good health, their morale, that they have good equipment and maintain good relations with you.
Your allies are precious, like family, like brothers in arms, and can bring back food and tools during their excursions in the Zone.
These supplies are always useful, and show that the cohesion of the group is good.

Be careful however, certain missions require a choice on your part, to be carried out with your soul and conscience.
They can have serious consequences for the rest of the adventure.
Certain choices will please one of your teammates more, to the detriment of another...
Who knows if the future will allow you to repair your mistakes?

After a long day of mission in the Zone, there's nothing like a little rest.
The atmosphere becomes more relaxed and warm in Igor's base, which is initially nothing other than an old storage warehouse.
In your post-apocalypic "Home Sweet Home", you will have to create everything necessary for the survival and comfort of your team.
You will need something to produce food, make treatments, build weapons...
You will have to ensure that the radioactivity is as low as possible, that the air is breathable, that you do not run out of electricity...
All this is necessary for the good health of your teammates and yourself, who must maintain healthy morale to move forward.

Like any Stalker, you're also a scavenger.
You will spend a lot of time collecting everything that comes within your reach, in order to recycle them to improve your base and your equipment.
Collect everything you can: chemicals, fuel, electronic components, plants, mushrooms...
Everything will sooner or later have a use, nothing is lost, everything is transformed.

Remember to carefully organize your inventory before wandering around the Zone.
Indeed, the NAR patrol in the area and an armed confrontation can quickly ensue.
And they're not alone, mysterious creatures are there too...
You will need to be well equipped to survive in this radioactive green hell.
Craft weapons, ammo, armor, gas mask, anti-radiation potions, health kits, alcohol...
A well-stocked and meticulously organized inventory is the key to the perfect survivalist.
Some wandering merchants allow you to exchange certain equipment for others.
Your PDA also allows you to measure the radiation rate and scan the surroundings to find resources and equipment.
You also have a homemade Portal Gun, powered by Chernobylite, allowing you to return to your base once your mission is done.
Don't expect to find a plethora of weapons in such an place.
The weaponry is quite basic, you can obtain a Revolver, a Makarov Pistol, an AK-47 (of course!), a Shotgun, a Crossbow, but you can also craft experimental weapons, very practical and powerful.
Each weapon is customizable, you can personalize them as you wish, by adding a sight or a scope, changing the trigger, modifying the barrel, choosing a better magazine, and even a skin if you have the appropriate DLCs.

As you complete missions, you will earn skill points, in order to acquire numerous advantages for your character. Each of your squad members can teach you their specialties. You will be able, among other things, to be more discreet, aim more precisely, have more health, etc...

The graphics of Chernobylite are sublime and very detailed.
The lights and environments are magnificent.
In fact, the developers of The Farm 51 went so far as to 3D scan the Zone and its surroundings, to provide as much realism as possible.
If the tragic events that occurred in 1986 retained an immense enigmatic aura, the designers knew how to perfectly combine realism and mystery.
In the Chernobyl and Pripyat Zone, where nature has reclaimed its rights, the atmosphere is gloomy, sinister but strangely charming.
The atmosphere is heavy and disturbing, but there is no doubt that it will captivate you.
In addition to the abundant amount of forests, you will have the opportunity to venture into residential areas of brutalist architecture, military bases, scientific complexes, and many other places popular with fans of urban exploration .
All this will bring you closer to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, responsible for this infamous disaster.

The weather is also changeable: the weather can sometimes be sunny, foggy, rainy...
But beware of Chernobylite storms...
During these powerful storms, causing green forest fires, a mysterious "Black Stalker" arrives via a portal with the sole aim of destroying you at all costs. You will either have to fight him and hurt him enough so that he runs away on his own, or run away from him and hope that he loses track of you...
But it will come back to haunt you, again and again, every day that God makes, with every Chernobylite storm...

The original soundtrack composed by Mikołaj Stroiński is a work of art.
It is composed of soft and pleasant ambient music with calm, mysterious and strange tones.
The OST wonderfully enhances the very special aura that emanates from the Zone.

Chernobylite is a pure masterpiece mixing FPS, RPG, Exploration and Survival, like its illustrious ancestor S.T.A.L.K.E.R..
The game is exciting, the plot thrilling, the atmosphere gloomy but with a very captivating atmosphere.
Answer the call of the Zone, you won't regret it...

Medal of Honor is developed by Danger Close and released in 2010.
It's a reboot of EA's famous FPS franchise.

After seeing the immense success of Call of Duty Modern Warfare from Infinity Ward and Activision,
It is clear that EA wanted to offer their own war FPS based on current conflicts.

This Medal of Honor is strongly inspired by the style of COD, especially Call Of Duty 4,
offering great gunfights and lots of scripted events.
However, we quickly realize that the developers wanted to make a (slightly) more realistic game, much more serious and down-to-earth, without the grandiloquence and excess dear to Activision's FPS.

The player mainly plays three elite American soldiers from Tier 1 and Rangers (Rabbit, Deuce and Adams), tasked with killing Al-Qaeda terrorists holed up in the mountains and caves of Afghanistan.
The plot is anchored in the real world, in order to bring maximum credibility and authenticity to the events of the game.

While most of the fights are classic guerrilla sequences,
the game still offers several varied types of gameplay, such as,
stealth missions during the night,
laser guidance of air-to-ground missiles,
very long distance sniping,
quad driving in the mountains,
shooting and bombing the Talibans by helicopter...

The shooting sensations are satisfying,
although most weapons have fairly high recoil.

Graphically, the game remains quite nice but slightly dated,
especially in comparison to its then competitor Call Of Duty Black Ops.
Buildings are partially destructible depending on the violence of the impacts,
a bit like Battlefield Bad Company 2.
The lighting and reflections are particularly magnificent.

A few small flaws are to be deplored.
The FOV is way too narrow and not adjustable.
The AI is not very smart, enemies often run towards the player or stay hidden.
The campaign is far too short,
especially since we don't see the end of the game coming at all.
This leaves the player wanting more, and what's more,
its sequel MOH Warfighter is not available on Steam...

If this MOH 2010 is not the game of the decade,
the campaign not being particularly memorable but very effective,
the game nevertheless remains enjoyable for those who appreciate war FPS.

DOOM Eternal is developed by id Software and released in 2020.

It is the direct sequel to DOOM 2016.

If the developers had succeeded in modernizing the formula of the cult classic DOOM, with gameplay as fast as it was enjoyable, it would seem that with Eternal, they sought to methodically ruin everything, by adding an incalculable number of infuriating and unthinkable flaws in a DOOM. And it hurts me to write a negative review of a game from a franchise that I have always loved so much.

The awful storyline runs counter to the old DOOM, in which the UAC and Mars were invaded by demons. In Eternal, Bethesda lays down an unnecessarily complex lore based on completely uninteresting ancient civilizations, legendary warriors, priests and gods.

The combat is identical in every way to DOOM 2016, with impressive Glory Kills that allow you to brutally execute enemies.
But the gunfights are now completely mind-numbing and tiring, with enemies often extremely numerous, tough and powerful.
Demons can sometimes respawn indefinitely if an Arch-Vile or Buff Totem is near the combat zone...
The pace of the game is far too frenetic, we don't even have time to breathe!
During the ultra-fast and nauseating shootouts in which your reflexes are put to the test, an orgy of boring multi-colored effects seeks to either make you epileptic or blind you...

If the old DOOMs are known for their simplistic but so addictive gameplay which gives pride of place to fun combat, and exploration to find keys and skulls in order to advance, DOOM Eternal turns into a platform game, with immense quantity of difficult to access areas that will have to be reached using double jumps and dashes.
Also, the level design is often complex, strewn with tedious, counter-intuitive and not really welcome puzzles, which slow down the rate of progression of this FPS. And these boring sequences tend to accumulate to the point of overdose...
Who wants to think in a DOOM?

While most enemies come from previous games,
DOOM Eternal introduces some very annoying new demons to fight, like:
the horrifying "Doom Hunters", possessing more than 7500 HP and especially vulnerable to the Plasma Rifle,
the catastrophic "Marauders", boasting 5000 HP, moving at the speed of light, parrying bullets with their energy shield, attacking with an axe and summoning holograms of orange wolves!

If the fights are fun at first glance, the poorly balanced and sometimes crazy difficulty spoils the experience.
Not to mention the overabundance of platform sequences and puzzles that are enough to drive even the hardest DOOM fan crazy.
I almost want to make a Columbine after playing this DOOM Eternal.

DOOM is developed by id Software and released in 2016.
It is a "soft reboot" of the iconic FPS franchise started in 1993.

This 2016 installment finds its origins in the ashes of DOOM 4,
having suffered from development hell between 2008 and 2011.

The scenario takes place in 2149, 4 years after the events of DOOM 3.
The Union Aerospace Corporation, or UAC, has a huge research center on Mars,
and found a way to extract an infinite amount of resources from Hell, the "Argent energy".
But terrible bloodthirsty monsters took advantage of the dimensional portal,
to invade the red planet.
You play as the mighty Doom Slayer,
the only killer capable of eradicating those vile demons who have invaded the UAC complex and its surroundings on Mars.

While its distant predecessor DOOM 3 attempted an approach worthy of survival horror games,
DOOM 2016 goes back to basics, offering ultra-fast, violent, gory and enjoyable old-school gameplay, which will delight the most disturbed psychopaths among us.
The action is incredibly intense, so much so that any other game seems bland and slow in comparison!

The brutality of the game is limitless, and that's freaking good!
The combats are merciless, dynamic and fast, even much too fast.
A myriad of weapons are at your disposal to eradicate the demonic threat,
some of which are already well known to fans of classic DOOM (and can now be customized via modules), including the double-barreled Super Shotgun, the Minigun, the Plasma Rifle, the Rocket Launcher or the iconic BFG 9000,
without forgetting the Chainsaw, each frag of it is now a Glory Kill.

Glory Kills are one of the biggest new features brought by DOOM 2016.
If enemies are injured or stunned, they will be highlighted,
showing that you can execute them brutally,
i.e. dismember them, decapitate them, shred them, or even worse,
and this also gives you health and ammunition!

The Doom Slayer will have his work cut out to annihilate the demonic hordes,
composed of mostly well-known creatures from the series,
like Imps, Cacodemons, Revenants, Hell Knights, Mancubus, Pinky Demons and much more...

It is possible to improve the Doom Slayer's suit using modules collected from dead soldiers,
allowing you to have more health, better resistance to damage, the ability to reload faster, etc.
What a pleasure too, to set foot on the soil of Mars without worrying about your oxygen reserve, unlike DOOM 3!

The well-thought-out level design, although tortuous and old-fashioned,
where you have to look for keys and skulls to unlock certain doors.
Hell puts on its finest attire in this modern DOOM.
The graphics are extraordinary,
a clever mix of futuristic sci-fi and gloomy diabolical environments.
The light effects are simply splendid, and accentuate the feeling of fighting in a real nightmare.

The masterful soundtrack is by Mick Gordon.
It is made of very heavy and powerful Industrial Metal,
sometimes sublimated by epic choirs,
and darker, noisy Djent.
The OST gives the game a supercharged hellish atmosphere,
making you want to explode everything in your path.

The game nevertheless has some small flaws.
The fights are quite repetitive and sometimes seem long, since you regularly have to kill several hordes of enemies who respawn before being able to unlock a door and finally move forward.
Not being able to do a quick save proves frustrating for those who are used to the old episodes, especially on the highest difficulties reserved for the worst masochists, whose fights are deliriously ferocious.
But this is very little compared to the immense qualities of the game.

Never has a DOOM been as fast and furious as this 2016 version.
The mix of old-school gameplay in a modernized formula is perfectly awesome.
Fans of brutal FPS will undoubtedly enjoy this DOOM 2016,
the new starting point of an already cult saga from id Software.

Doom 3 BFG Edition is developed by id Software and released in 2012.

This compilation brings together DOOM 3, one of the best FPS of 2004 (alongside other cult shooters like Half-Life 2, Far Cry and Painkiller), its expansion Resurrection Of Evil, released in 2005 (the same year as excellent F.E.A.R.), a new addon called "The Lost Mission" as well as the first two games in the franchise, DOOM and DOOM II, released in 1993 and 1994 respectively.

The plot takes place in 2145, on the planet Mars.
The UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation) carries out numerous experiments and research in the fields of teleportation, weaponry, and biology. Following a teleportation experiment gone wrong, a portal to hell has been opened and, like an infernal Pandora's box, escapes a myriad of demonic creatures as vile as they are bellicose.
It's up to you, an anonymous soldier (nicknamed the Doom Marine), to decimate all these horrendous creatures and put an end to the invasion...
If the scenario is quite simplistic, and embellished with dialogue from B-movies, it is just a background for defeating demons at all costs.

This third major episode brings a real turning point in the franchise,
since it is a horror game with realistic graphics.
The atmosphere is gloomy and oppressive as can be,
it puts you in a state of perpetual unease,
with its gloomy futuristic industrial settings, rust, corpses and blood everywhere,
viscera and other indescribable organic elements in abundance,
without forgetting its superb omnipresent play of light and shadow,
Mars has never been as suffocating as it is here, claustrophobics beware.

The terrifying atmosphere is of course accentuated by the excellent soundscape.
You will be on the lookout for a multitude of distressing sounds, throbbing noises, frightening screams, intriguing whispers...
The magnificent graphics from 2004 have looked a little dated,
the remastering is indeed quite light.
The only downside about this is the absence of music in-game, only a few small notes and stingers punctuate certain strong moments.
Except the main theme of the game which is very great.

The DOOM 3 bestiary is made up of abominable and varied creatures,
each one more hideous than the last, a true nightmare fuel.
You will take a great pleasure in dismembering them, eviscerating them or worse.

Demons can appear from anywhere, in a corner, lurking in the shadows,
or even right behind you...
Take care, and be on the lookout for all possible threats.

Terrible creatures from the first DOOM are back,
now in a more realistic form, with among others:
the Imps, humanoid demons who throw fireballs,
the Cacodemons, these iconic flying spherical monsters which fire similar projectiles,
the Pinky Demons, whose appearance has evolved and become fierce quadripeds,
the Archviles, who have the ability to summon other demons,
or the Revenants, these armored skeletons with rocket launchers on their shoulders...

New nightmarish abominations have invaded the UAC Labs, such as:
Zombies, some of whom are even armed with shotguns or machine guns,
Trites, spiders that often attack in packs,
Cherubs, vile insects with heads of human children,
or Wraiths, bat-like monsters that can teleport during combat...

Gigantic bosses are some of the most formidable enemies you will face.

The game offers a complete and varied weaponry, worthy of the old games,
you'll find for example:
a Shotgun, powerful at short range, but handicapped by its crazy spread and its ridiculously low rate of fire,
a Pulse Rifle and a Minigun, very practical for spraying bullets on all the monstrosities you encounter,
a Chainsaw, which allows you to shred everyone leaving only a pool of blood,
a classic Rocket Launcher and the legendary BFG-9000 with phenomenal power,
the Soulcube, a mystical weapon that allows you to recover health from enemies...
The flashlight is now attached to the Doom Marine suit,
no need to switch between a gun and the light like in the original Doom 3.

Those familiar with classic DOOM will however notice that the combat is quite slow and not very dynamic,
until we have several creatures to face at the same time.
The level design is often complex and tortuous, not to say terrible at times,
forcing you to go back and forth a lot to find an object to finally move forward.

DOOM 3 is a game of exceptional quality,
that all horror game fans will enjoy.
However, it remains underrated by a large part of the franchise's fans.

Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil was released in 2005, the same year as the excellent F.E.A.R, Quake IV and Serious Sam 2.

The story takes place two years after the events of the base game.
Demons still haunt the UAC Facility,
you play as a second Marine whose mission is to eradicate the source of evil,
a powerful Demon who survived, and who now resides in the depths of hell.

In addition to most weapons in Doom 3,
ROE has three new features:
a double-barreled Shotgun, much more powerful than the classic Shotgun which instantly becomes obsolete,
the "Grabber Gun", a Gravity Gun similar to Half-Life 2 which allows you to lift objects and send back enemy projectiles,
and the Artifact, a heart-shaped device that slows down time F.E.A.R. style.

This extension is more action oriented,
with more fighting, less exploration,
and simplified level design.

The settings are quite similar, sometimes industrial, sometimes mystical,
with a trip to hell full of demons to exterminate.

Moreover, new creatures appear, such as Hazmat Zombies,
or the Bruisers, vile demons with cannons for arms and a screen on their mouth...

Doom 3 ROE is a very successful expansion, perfectly extending the original game.
A decent lifespan with pleasant additions, I would even dare to say that ROE is more fun than DOOM 3!

This BFG Edition contains a second new expansion released in 2012, called Doom 3: The Lost Mission.

It consists of a short campaign of 8 levels,
based on levels abandoned during the development of DOOM 3.

We play an anonymous soldier from the Bravo Squad,
initially tasked with joining and assisting the DOOM Marine team,
until his team is completely decimated by demons.
Your new mission now boils down to having to deactivate a powerful teleporter,
in hope of prevent demons from reaching Earth.

TLM doesn't add any new enemies or weapons,
but is reuses those from DOOM 3 and ROE.

This addon is quite nice and pleasant to play,
but brings nothing new to the experience,
and even a certain feeling of déjà vu.

DOOM 3 BFG Edition is a true masterpiece,
like all FPS games developed by id Software.
Although this third installment is considered the black sheep of the DOOM franchise,
since the game leans towards horror with slower gameplay,
it’s still an excellent episode nonetheless.
In addition, the two expansions Resurrection of Evil & The Lost Mission extend the enjoyment.
Not to mention the presence of the cult DOOM and DOOM II, two true classics.
D3BFG is a game to absolutely own, otherwise you'll miss out on an essential and major title.

Quake III Arena is developed by id Software and released in 1999.

This third episode abandons the linear story mode of the two previous games,
preferring to focus brilliantly on arena combat and multiplayer.
This is one of the last great iconic FPS games of the 90s,
and one of the most cult Arena Shooters ever released.

This episode does not offer a single player campaign strictly speaking,
but a series of levels in which you fight to the death for your survival,
against opponents without mercy, in arenas full of weapons,
jump pads, and power-ups of all kinds.
Sharpen your reflexes and prepare for wild gunfights,
against battle-hardened and ferocious bots.

Q3A's gameplay is hectic, intense, and brutal.
Bots are fast, responsive and skillful,
giving rise to fierce battles,
leaving you almost no second of respite,
as long as you play on a high difficulty (like Hardcore),
giving all its flavor to the game.

A large choice of levels is available,
all more lugubrious and demonic than the others,
comprising oppressive steel corridors littered with skulls and flaming torches,
dried blood, lava and rust, all topped by infernal skies.

Most of the maps have an unforgettable level design and style,
here is an anthology of my favorites, each having an infamous name:
"Arena Gate", "The Places of Many Deaths", "The Campgrounds",
"Brimstone Abbey", "Hell's Gate"...

Any cult FPS must have weapons worthy of the name,
and Quake III can boast of having 9 of the most effective weapons in the entire FPS genre,
among which the most important are described below.

The Double Barrel Shotgun has phenomenal power at close range,
and will annihilate anyone within close range.
The Rocket Launcher is very powerful and accurate, and kills in one or two hits,
it is also practical for doing Rocket Jumps and reaching high surfaces.
The Railgun is a laser cannon with perfect precision, and kills in two shots except headshot,
it can act as a sniper rifle for fans of ranged combat.
The Machine Gun and Plasma Gun are the two submachine guns in the game,
the first being available from spawn, and the second being much more powerful.
The Lightning Gun fires electricity continuously, and although its power seems limited,
its very high rate of fire makes it a weapon not to be underestimated.

Several items to collect spice up the games,
while others just allow you to survive longer in this chaos.

In addition to health and armor points, but also weapons and ammunition,
several powerups are available,
granting superb time-limited benefits to the player who picks them up.

"Haste" increases your character's speed and weapon rate of fire by 30%.
"Quad Damage" multiplies your weapon damage by 3, and no, that's not a typo...
"Regeneration" heals you little by little for 30 seconds, up to a maximum of 200HP.
"Invisibility" makes you transparent for 30 seconds, useful for surprising your opponents.
"Personal Teleporter" is an activatable item, which teleports you to a random respawn point.
"Personal Medkit" is also an activatable item, and instantly restores your health up to 125HP.

The different characters have an inimitable design,
and have for the most part become icons of the "Boomer Shooter" as they say nowadays.
Here are some of the game's most famous fighters:
Ranger is the main character of the first Quake, who needs no introduction.
Bitterman is the hero we play in Quake II, what more can be said?
Doom is better known as Doomguy, and represents id Software's cult franchise.
Anarki is the only character to have a multi-colored name, he is also recognizable thanks to his hoverboard,
Orbb is a huge eyeball with a small mechanical body and vaguely human legs.
Klesk is a sort of orange alien with a demonic appearance.
Sarge, like the previous character, reminds me so much of the PS2 version called "Quake III Revolution", which I had so much fun playing with at the time.

The soundscape is as undoubtedly successful as everything else.
The Q3A OST is one of my favorites in all games, that’s saying something!
Sonic Mayhem and Front Line Assembly made a masterpiece of Industrial Metal, very hardcore and heavy,
which will delight all music-loving metalheads of which I am a part,
and highlighting all the power and brutality of this sublime game.

Let's not forget the hoarse voice of the Announcer, and his famous "Excellent" when we do two frags in two seconds, or "Impressive" when you hit two enemies in a row without missing with the Railgun.

How to write an objective review of such an FPS monument?
It's a difficult exercise as Quake III represents the quintessence of the FPS,
and the excellent Arena Shooter genre which is now defunct.
Q3A symbolizes excellence in all areas:
fast, brutal, gory, enjoyable, beautiful and gripping,
id Software's game is simply masterful,
and is essential for anyone who claims to be a gamer and FPS fan.
