Wilson Chronicles is a French Source Mod released in 2016.

The plot takes place at the same time as the events experienced in the first Half-Life and its expansions.
We play Major Darren Wilson who works in the military research department of the Black Mesa Research Facility in New Mexico.
The experiment carried out by the scientists of Sector C goes wrong, and a catastrophe of unprecedented magnitude ensues.
This "Resonance Cascade" caused numerous deaths and the partial destruction of the BMRF.
Worse still, it has opened a dimensional breach from which hostile aliens are invading Earth.
And if that wasn't enough, the government sent in the Military to silence the survivors.
Run away from this disaster however you can!

Equipped with his green H.E.V. Suit and a substantial arsenal including most of the weapons from Half-Life 1 accompanied by some new ones like the G36C,
Major Wilson will have to face alot of creatures from Xen,
including Headcrabs, Zombies, Houndeyes, Bullsquids, Vortigaunts, Barnacles, and even Alien Controllers.
But the H.E.C.U. Soldiers & the Black Ops intend to exterminate all traces of life present in Black Mesa, including you…

Half-Life fans will recognize Black Mesa at first glance,
but the developers have added their personal touch to the settings.
The graphics are rather nice for Source Engine,
pretty light effects and explosions flatter the retina,
and a strong Lens Flare effect emerges from the light sources.

The gameplay is obviously very similar to Half-Life for which it is the source of inspiration.
The maps are in the purest style of the GoldSrc era, you'll try to find your way in this maze of corridors and air ducts with pleasure.

Besides, I noticed several references to Valve games.
A room looks exactly like the beginning of Half-Life Uplink.
Wilson partly revisits the Chance Course of Half-Life, but this time, soldiers are entrenched there.
Fans will recognize the radio messages from Half-Life 1 and Opposing Force.
Bullsquids are similar to the first games, but their screams come straight from Half-Life 2 Beta!

The atmosphere is faithful to the first adventures of the franchise.
The original soundtrack honors the Mod.
The sinister music accentuates the horror caused by the disaster,
while the very Rock or Synth combat music boosts the action.

Although amusing, Wilson Chronicles leaves a taste of unfinished business.
Some lighting and reflection bugs are to be deplored.
When you get shot, a blinding white flash covers the screen, making action sequences difficult at times.
Unfortunately, as I write these lines, Wilson's adventures are not completed since one or more chapters are missing.
Indeed, it's a Beta whose last update dates back to 2019.
Fingers crossed that a final version eventually sees the light of day.
