REVIEW EDITED ( SEE NOTE BELOW )

Original Post:
Sony, has recently sparked controversy with its new requirement for players to have a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to engage in the game. This decision has introduced an unwelcome layer of exclusivity and restriction that may alienate a significant portion of the game's audience. With over 170 Countries not having access to the PSN network, this is a good chunk of the community not able to play the game.

Firstly, the requirement to possess a PSN account just to play Helldivers 2 is a considerable barrier for many. Not everyone is comfortable with, or interested in, creating an online account tied to a network that has had its fair share of security concerns over the years. This move feels more like a gatekeeping mechanism rather than an enhancement of user experience.

Moreover, this requirement could be seen as a thinly-veiled attempt by Sony to bolster their PSN subscriptions, which casts a shadow over the genuine enjoyment of the game. Players are now compelled to partake in a system that they may not otherwise engage with, potentially incurring additional costs or the hassle of managing another online profile.

The game itself continues to deliver the high-quality, cooperative gameplay that fans expect from the Helldivers series. The strategic depth, combined with Arrowhead's sharp design sensibilities, makes for engaging sessions. However, this gameplay experience is now overshadowed by the PSN account requirement, which adds an unnecessary complication for those looking to simply enjoy the game.

In conclusion, while Helldivers 2 remains a robust tactical shooter with much to offer, Sony’s decision to gate this experience behind a PSN account is a disservice to the game's community. It's a move that may not only frustrate current fans but also deter new players from discovering what is otherwise a commendable addition to the Helldivers saga. This requirement feels less like an enhancement and more like a mandatory toll—a step back in consumer-friendly practices.

During this time, I, as well as many others, will remove themselves from playing this game until Sony changes their ideals

Edit: Sony has Listened and simply because of that, I can continue enjoying the game I've already put 100 hours in.

With around 600 hours in the game, ill say, I got my monies worth, definitely enjoyed most of it, but as the game progressed an the server transfers opened, those servers that are still dealing with severe under population are not able to really play the game. The game is in an unfinished state, plain an simple, this could of remained in an open beta state for the next year and then had an official release sometime in 2022.

I'll of course continue to be checking in with the game as I want to maintain the "edge" or "lead" that I've had with playing so much, but it's not in a state where at 600 hours, I can find it "fun".

This review will be updated when server merges happen and/or my opinion changes.
