A lot of the negative reviews are most likely people who refuse to try and play other ways then what they think is 'best'. I've played the opening act as Warrior, Ranger, and Witch so far and have found builds for each of them to be fairly strong vs mob packs and bosses. Definitely took a little learning curve, but once you find the synergy it's great! Gear is also very important and learning to upgrade a new base over your previous rare can make a world of difference. Once you understand which support gems accentuate your skill gem combos well and can keep up with your gear you'll be flying through the game, albeit not as fast as poe1, but at a fun comfortable pace where you don't have to worry about one shots and still have to think about your combos and enemy mechanics time to time.
