I started playing EVE Online back in 2010 long before it was free. I have played on and off since then.

~ Subscription versus Free to Play:

The game is now "Free to Play" (debatable to some). And you can continue to play for free.. forever if you wish. You will experience much of the core gameplay within the limitations of the Alpha Clone state. While under the Alpha Clone status you will be restricted to basic access of spaceships, ship equipment, and ship upgrades.

However, if you want to train up and/or access skills beyond the free Alpha Clone limitations then you will be required to upgrade your account to the premium Omega Clone status. Activation is done in monthly installments as per your classic paid MMO subscription services. You can upgrade with real life money or in-game currency (ISK & PLEX). But, grinding in-game currency for premium Omega status can be a whole other job. If your subscription ever expires your Omega Clone skills will remain intact but you will be locked back to Alpha Clone skills limitations and restrictions. So you can resubscribe later and still access your Omega Clone skills and continue building up premium grade skills at a later date.

~ Gameplay:

The game truly shines when you have a group of people to play with. If you have no one to play with then you might eventually find the game feeling stagnate and frustrating. There is large chunks of content and gameplay that can require large groups of players. And due to the "fleet" based mechanics of EVE there is only so much a solo player can achieve. This is much akin to any other MMO with bosses and end game content. This can be a good or bad thing depending on your own social skills and personel gameplay preferences.

On the other hand, if you enjoy market spreadsheets and calculators you could have fun being a solo merchant player and make a virtual fortune. EVE Online is renowned for having one of the most strict and consistent game economies if not the single best iteration of a virtual economy of any game ever made.

Or if enjoy taking screenshots of neat looking space vistas or playing hacking mini games you could have fun being a solo explorer / treasure hunter. If the scanning and probing feature of EVE is something you get into then you could work with others sharing and selling location markers and information.

There is lots to do in EVE Online. But, many players would do well to study and research EVE Online out of game to get a bigger picture of the mechanics of gameplay.

Great game. And with a few mods it's even better.

A top notch mod created from a full team of developers "Prism Studios". This is more like a sequel than anything else. If you enjoyed any of the Portal single player adventures then I strongly recommend you try this.

Can't wait to see more from Prism Studios. A worthy development team I would be glad to throw my money at.

The pinnacle of WoW type MMO's.

Pros:
*One of the best Free-to-play models I have experienced with little to no pay to win.
*Large updates and expansions are still frequent. Along with seasonal events year round.
*Massive variety of content from collectible mounts and pets to enemies and locations to explore.
*Wardrobe system that lets you customize your appearance whenever you want.
*There is so much to do in the game it can feel a bit overwhelming.

Cons:
*Like any large MMO it takes some time to learn and get into.
*The vast majority of regular players can only be found grinding the highest tier of end game content. Thus the older areas can feel a bit barren. Although most early content very solo-able.

(note: I setup my primary account years ago via Trion Worlds directly and have played for hundreds of hours.)

This is a compulsive gamers nightmare. But it scratches a certain itch so I keep coming back for more... just avoid this game if you can.

I have yet to find the time to dig into this one as much as I have the Fallout series. But I have already played enough between PC and console to know it's a winner.

So much to do.. so much to mod.. life is too short :/

Perfect for any casual or hardcore gamer.
Fun and frustrating at the same time.
There is a huge variety of power ups and items.
And it feels as if every play through is a bit different.
Hit boxes are a bit misrepresented but eventually you will get used to it.
