As someone who affectionately reffers to this game as "No Man's Lie," I find it strange to write this positive review.

Looking back on just where this game came from, it's certainly come a long way from launch. Sean Murray's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ marketing gave procedural generation a bad rap, and people fell off the hype train as soon as we discovered that it would be impossible to see another player. (If you had half a brain though, you'd notice that no open world multiplayer game could ever be paused)

So with that, we left the game to the depths of steam hell, abandoned along with several other unrecognized titles of assumed equally garbage value.

But I always had hope for NMS. The game has it's fair share of bugs and glitches, but so did any title that EA or Ubisoft came out with. And NMS is a more original IP than most things either of those companies come up with these days, not to mention that their dev team is smaller.

I want to make it clear, NMS is ART in video game format. That's not praise, it's categorization. Because the game just FEELS like art. Why do I say that? Well, some things that NMS and most art have in common:
-Beautiful
-Relaxing
-Meant for only the observer, i.e. the singleplayer experience
-Has little value to someone who doesn't appreciate it, and vice versa
-Can be viewed again and again, for hours at a time, and the awe is hard to cease when you do appreciate it

NMS is a chill singleplayer experience. That's all it is, and I feel like that's all it will ever be. Many people expect this game to roll out with multiplayer, and I for one know that's not happening. However, it doesn't need it either. Many people think that a vast galaxy should be explored with friends, and I for one agree in some regards, but this game doesn't play by those rules. What it needs is more content, but for a small dev team to work tirelessly against the current of the bad marketing that the game was born with to deliver the user free content, is actually very impressive.

So, why would you want this game? In some ways, for the same reason why you might want Farming Simulator or Euro Truck Simulator, this is Artsy Space Simulator. You will buy this game because you want to come home from a day of your friends at school calling you a stupid queer for no reason, and just relax. Let your frustrations out on hostile space pirates and towers of resource deposits. Build your unique base and ride around the surface of your planet in your new rover. Or just fly around and explore, because the Atlas is a never ending quest that you will chase for ages.

While the possibilities are not limitless, the sky is. The repetitive nature of NMS will last for some and die out for others. I recommend this game because I still believe in the future that it could have. If it dropped its price tag down to $35. Don't buy this game at full price ever.
