Early Access Review
Positive Points:

1. Enhanced solo lane experience: Added features like neutral objectives and portals.
2. Improved graphics: The graphics have seen a significant upgrade, making the game visually appealing.
3. Impactful combat: Attacks feel weighty and satisfying, with great sound effects.
4. Flexible item builds: Big variety in item builds, especially for auto attackers.
5. New mechanics: The introduction of new mechanics has brought fresh dynamics to the gameplay.
6. Community engagement: The game has a strong, but small community that actively provides feedback and suggestions.
7. Balanced crit mechanics: The new crit mechanics for all characters create interesting gameplay dynamics.
8. Nostalgic elements: Nostalgic elements reminiscent of the original Smite have been brought back.
9. Enhanced map interaction: Interaction with map rotations and features is interesting and positive.

Negative Points:

1. Clunky and slow: Clunky and slow, missing progression.
2. Limited god pool: The limited selection of gods is a point of contention.
3. UI/Store improvements needed: Issues with the user interface and store.
4. Performance issues: The game has performance troubles, especially on higher settings.
5. Matchmaking problems: The current lack of player stats affects matchmaking quality.
6. Tank itemization: Tank items feel lackluster and need better balancing.
7. Long game times: Matches are longer than in the original Smite, affecting the overall experience.
8. Blurring of class lines: The removal of distinct class roles has raised concerns about strategic depth.
9. Paywalled game access: Not free to play during the alpha. You either buy a pack or manage to obtain an access key.
10. No purchased skins carry over: Ex Smite 1 players who purchased skins in the first game will have to re-buy every single skin. (You will be receiving 50% off on the new skins if you purchased them with real money in the past) https://www.smite2.com/faqs/

I cannot recommend this game for a few reasons:

Small community: Less than 10,000 concurrent players. At the moment of writing, there are around 2,000 players worldwide, expect long queues. They have been giving out many keys to try and have players download, play, and give feedback, but I am not sure it worked out.

Here you can see some comparisons with previous games: Smite 1, Dota 2, and Deadlock (currently in alpha/beta phase). https://steamdb.info/charts/?compare=570,386360,1422450,2437170

Buy to play (During Alpha/Beta): If you want access, be ready to pay 30€ / 30$ and up for the bigger packages.

Expensive gods and skins: Be prepared to pay up, and if Smite 3 is ever released, be prepared to buy again.

I suggest you look into Deadlock from Valve if you really want something that will be long-lasting and will have endless support from a company that will take care of their games in the long run. Receiving an invite is not too hard either nowadays; the game is currently in Alpha and looking better and more enjoyable.

Positive Points:
1. Vast open world: Expansive and diverse map that allows for extensive exploration across a virtual America.
2. Variety of vehicles: The game offers a wide range of vehicles, including cars, boats, planes, and motorcycles, providing a unique and dynamic racing experience.
3. Seamless transition: The ability to switch between different types of vehicles seamlessly is a standout feature that adds to the game’s appeal.
4. Stunning graphics: Impressive visuals, with detailed landscapes, realistic weather effects, and a dynamic day-night cycle.
5. Sound design: The realistic engine sounds, screeching tires, and diverse soundtrack enhance the overall immersive experience.
6. Replay value: With numerous events, races, and challenges, the game offers high replayability, keeping players engaged for extended periods.
7. Regular updates: The game receives regular updates and community events, ensuring fresh content and ongoing engagement.

Negative Points:
1. Simplistic driving mechanics: The driving mechanics are too simplistic and arcadey, which can detract from the overall experience.
2. Lack of car physics: The absence of realistic car physics makes the driving feel less authentic.
3. Weak storyline: The game’s narrative is weak and secondary to the gameplay, which may disappoint those looking for a more story-driven experience.
4. Repetitive activities: Certain activities, especially plane-related ones, are repetitive and dull.
5. Rubber band AI: The AI can feel artificially challenging due to rubber banding, which keeps races overly exciting but can be frustrating.
6. Underwhelming level design: The level design lacks creativity and fails to fully utilize the open-world potential.
7. Server dependency: The game’s reliance on servers means that it could be rendered unplayable if the servers are shut down, which is a concern for long-term players.

At the time of writing, Ubisoft is apparently looking into how to keep the game playable when servers are shut down, but there are no details yet. One thing is for sure: they will be shut down, probably in early 2025/2026.

Currently, at the time of review, the game is being sold for $1 / €1 on many storefronts, which is probably worth its price, since you may not be able to play it anymore in the future.

I sadly cannot recommend the game, as this is a way for Ubisoft to get people into the game and push them towards Motorfest before servers shut down.

I have played the game for hundreds of hours on another platform where I purchased the game previously.

71.4 hrs on record (71.3 hrs at review time)
Positive Points:
1. Equal treatment of stealth and open combat: Provides players with different gameplay options.
2. Rich new challenges and satisfying stealth objectives: No more infamy endless grind, that made me quit PayDay 2 after a few, as having to restart from 0 all the time was annoying.

Negative Points:
1. No server browser: Online only, solo mode still requires you to be online to create your own lobby.
2. Expensive DLC: Unrewarding grind.
3. Small amount of heists currently available: Developer is planning to add a kick feature, I feel it is going to be abused, and if that turns out true, I am just going to drop the game as I won't be wasting time knowing someone could boot me out of the game when the heist is done.
4. It feels very unbalanced sometimes: The police has set an entire army camp just behind the heist location, and in less than a minute the entire country will be on you with full force.
5. The heists are very short: There are no multi-day heists like in PayDay 2.
6. Bots are useless: If you like to play in solo lobby, but still control your companions.
7. It uses Epic Online Services (EOS) for matchmaking: If EOS has server issues, which is common, you wouldn't be able to play.

--------

General consideration and advice:
Payday 3 has received generally unfavorable reviews. It is praised for its equal treatment of stealth and open combat but criticized for its controls, lack of server browser, and online-only gameplay. The game has a user score of 3.2 on Metacritic.

If you do not own PayDay 3 yet, but are looking for something simple, you can grab this or Crime Boss: Rockay City. If you are looking for something deep, PayDay 2 would be my suggestion.

Positive Points:
1. Cooperative first-person shooter: Plunges players into the thrilling world of high-stakes heists.
2. Dedicated fanbase: Maintained a dedicated fanbase and received numerous updates.
3. Rewards strategic planning and communication: Offers a wide range of objectives, from stealthy infiltrations to all-out shootouts.
4. Extensive customization options: Provides players with different gameplay choices.
5. Distinct and gritty art style: Adds personality to the game.
6. Dynamic soundtrack: Ramps up the tension during heists.
7. Solid voice acting: Adds personality to the game's colorful cast of characters.
8. Fun co-op shooter: Also fun singleplayer.
9. Many heists: Plenty of heists to do.

Negative Points:
1. Outdated graphics: Some users found it less engaging than newer games.
2. P2P connection: The host acts as a server, but it’s not a dedicated server.
3. Kick feature abuse: Some people will abuse the kick feature without you knowing why.
4. Random kicks: Players may kick you for no reason, leading to frustration.
5. Uses Epic Online Services (EOS): Matchmaking relies on EOS, and server issues can make the game unplayable.

--------

General consideration and advice:
Payday 2 is a cooperative first-person shooter that has maintained a dedicated fanbase since its release in 2013. It offers a wide range of objectives and extensive customization options. Some users found the graphics outdated and less engaging than newer games. The game has a user score of 4.0 on Metacritic.

If you are unsure between this and PayDay 3, PayDay 2 is highly suggested as it has a bigger player base.

3. Good gameplay loop: Engaging and enjoyable gameplay loop.
4. Creative missions: Offers unique and interesting missions.
5. Improved after launch: Significant improvements since launch.
6. Multi-day heists: Includes multi-day heists with consequences based on your approach (loud or stealth).

Negative Points:
1. Poor writing and NPC design: Writing and NPC design are lacking.
2. Boring solo gameplay: Solo gameplay loop can get boring very fast.
3. Many bugs: Immersion-breaking bugs present.
4. Unbalanced difficulty: Difficulty can feel unbalanced.
5. Bad writing and voice acting: Writing and voice acting are seriously bad.
6. P2P connection: Uses a peer-to-peer connection.
7. Cyborg-Terminator cops: Police can feel overpowered.
8. Uses Epic Online Services (EOS): Matchmaking relies on EOS, and server issues can make the game unplayable.

General consideration and advice:
Crime Boss: Rockay City has received mixed reviews. It is praised for its gameplay loop and creative missions but criticized for its poor writing, NPC design, and bugs. The game has a user score of 5.3 on Metacritic.

If you are looking for an easy-going criminal heister simulator, this game is quite nice. If you want something deeper, PayDay 2 is a better choice. For something simpler, PayDay 3 is recommended. If you like retro games, you can try PayDay 1, although it has a very small player base, and you'd mostly be playing solo.

7.9 hrs on record
Positive Points:

1. Improved graphics: The game boasts noticeable graphical upgrades, making the visuals more appealing.
2. New heroes: The addition of new heroes like Junkerqueen, Sojourn, and Kiriko has been well-received.
3. 5v5 Gameplay: The shift from 6v6 to 5v5 gameplay has added a fresh dynamic to the matches.
4. New game modes: The introduction of new game modes, such as Push, has been praised for enhancing the core experience.
5. Voice lines and redesigns: The new voice lines and character redesigns are a hit among players.
6. Fast-paced exciting multiplayer: The multiplayer gameplay remains fast-paced and exciting.
7. Improved UI: The user interface has seen improvements, making it more user-friendly.
8. Fun to play: Despite its flaws, the game is still somewhat enjoyable and worth playing, without paying.
9. Steam deck performance: The game runs well on the Steam Deck, providing a good experience for handheld players.
10. Potential for growth: There is potential for the game to improve further with future updates, but there will always be some drawbacks.

Negative Points:

1. Microtransactions: The game feels like it is a money grab with constant microtransactions.
2. Battle Pass System: The battle pass progression system can be seen as costly and encourages selfish gameplay.
3. Lack of rewards for original players: Players of the original Overwatch feel they received no rewards for their previous purchases.
4. Feels like an update: Playing this game feels more like an update than a true sequel.
5. Teething issues: The game has faced several teething issues since its launch.
6. Unfulfilled promises: Blizzard has been criticized for not delivering on important promises at early launch.
7. Nickel and diming: It feels like the company is always finding ways to nickel and dime players for new features that could've/should've been free.
8. Recycled content: Much of the content in Overwatch 2 is seen as recycled from the original game.
9. Annoying progression: The progression system is considered annoying.

Overall, while Overwatch 2 has its share of improvements and enjoyable elements, it also faces significant criticism from its player base. Whether it’s worth playing depends on what aspects of the game you value most.

I personally pre-ordered Overwatch 1 and enjoyed that one. If I had known what I was going to receive, I would've avoided it, and I also do prefer it over Overwatch 1.5 / 2 update.
