If you enjoyed any other Fallout game (I started from Fallout 4) this game will open your eyes to how Fallout has drastically changed over the years to watered-down slush, or, if you enjoy a good story with a vast open-world bursting with surprises and fantastic narration, you WILL fall in love with this game.

[GRAPHICS]
Now, trying to play a 1997 game in the year 2023 is a hard sell if your concerned about graphics, but, you do get used to it after about the second hour and you could pretend that it is an 'art style'. They do have a ring to them and it is interesting to see how the studio tackled various limitations of technology at the time. The colours are quiet drab and depressing, sets the tone for this beautiful game.

[STORY]
Very solid story with a modest amount of lore that eventually cover pretty much every question that you ask yourself during the experience (with some being on the wiki from the guide book that came with the game). The characters are mostly text based with a dozen or so animated and voice-acted main characters. The interactions you have with them feel very natural and are well scripted with certain dialogue options being determined by your player characters skills. It is very gripping and really draws you into it, making you want to keep exploring the untold truths of the land.

[GAMEPLAY]
This game is top-down and turn-based so be prepared to embark on a mental journey. Although you may initially find the turn-based system somewhat okay in the first few hours, you will discover many of the quirks around it pretty soon, with how it has a interesting effect on combat with multiple enemies for example, and how to work-around it. Even so, the atmosphere of the game is not comparable with any other modern post-apocalyptic game with the whole game-world genuinely feeling as if regular people are clawing their way to survive with everything and everyone trying to kill them, a world with pockets of order and constant chaos on the verge. The music that accompanies your travels adds another layer to the apocalypse cake, although there are (what feels like) 5 tracks on loop.

One thing about this game is that it does not give a ♥♥♥♥ about you, after all your just another vault dweller, not superman. With that being said, saving often is key in this game as certain situations arise where you fail a quest or your designated pack mule (your companion) dies, and there is no 'try again' so to say. Some things in this game are poorly designed and as such referring to the wiki or forums can be paramount to your survival.

If you get stuck at any point, I suggest to read the free manual provided with the game, It tells you all the basic that you will certainly get confused about.

[CONCLUSION]
If you want to enjoy a fun, story-driven game and are up for the challenges of this sprawling wasteland teeming with death, then I implore you to play this game.

In summary, the amount of content in the game is almost never-ending,

Tons of different dialogue options of which some can be uncovered by completing certain actions. Lots of lore and history behind the places you visit and people you meet, it really immerses you in the world and builds it like a puzzle as you explore and carve your way to your own goals. Huge map and Insane variety of things you come across in the game, not including DLC.

As for open-world RPGs go, this game is the best in its class, by a mile.
Disclaimer! I have not played Fallout 3 yet but fallout 4's story is boring and uninspiring at best. ♥♥♥♥ you Preston Garvey leave me the ♥♥♥♥ alone.

I admire this game for the simple reason that its exactly what I want from a open world RPG game. And if I don't like something I just change it with a beautiful thing known as mods * cough* stability *cough cough* graphics.

( combat music begins as a group of ruthless Legionary assassins creep over the horizon )

Slashy stabby kills are fun...Well thats until thats what most of the game is about. This game (for me) has a weak story line as i have never watched any Lotr films or read the books. At least captains having different abilities in cool as you have to counter them in order to kill them effectivlly.

8/10
