Total War: WARHAMMER III had a rough start. Initially it launched without its grand campaign mode, Immortal Empires, instead launching with a narrative driven campaign called Realms of Chaos. Realms of Chaos was not a bad game mode, but for those who primarily played Mortal Empires in Warhammer II, it was a very lackluster experience.

After Immortal Empires launched, the game improved drastically, but there were other problems. For starters, many bugs that were originally fixed in Warhammer II suddenly came back, and unfortunately, did not get fixed quickly. There were also many new bugs, such as inconsistent unit pathing, poor performance, crashes, and some more serious bugs that effectively made certain factions unplayable. Over time, these bugs were fixed, but very slowly. So slowly, in fact, that the Community Bug Fix mod was practically a necessity for some players.

Unfortunately, Warhammer III's problems did not end there. Starting in 2023, the price for DLC had a significant increase. While the cost in itself was not a big deal for some, what was a big deal was the lack of content contained in these DLCs and overall support. While you can refer to each DLC's page for more specific reviews, I personally thought the price was fair for all EXCEPT Shadow's of Chance, which is where Warhammer III's issues reached it's peak.

When Shadows of Change launched, the game was in a poor state. There were MANY bugs that significantly affected the enjoyment of the game. Ranged units would refuse to fire, unit reactions to your commands were delayed, the AI on the campaign map was overly passive and would often refuse to attack the player even after they declared war, and so much more. All of this, in addition to the high price and lack of content in Shadows of Change, led to a massive backlash within the community. In nearly every social circle, from Reddit to the Creative Assembly forums, people made their disappointment known. The game and DLCs were pounded with poor reviews and the outrage reached a peak when the former Product Manager for Creative Assembly, Rob Bartholomew, low-key threatened to pull support for the game if Shadows of Change did not sell well.

After the Shadows of Change fiasco, Creative Assembly promised to do better. I am VERY happy to say that they have. While DLC prices remain high at $25 USD, they contain significantly more content and have been broken down into three parts that can be purchased individually. They have put a lot more focus on bug fixes and quality of life changes, as well as put in a lot of "free" content that was completely unexpected. Shadows of Change had more content added to it, as well. They have promised reworks and updates to factions that have fallen behind since their release in Warhammer I and II, and so far, have followed through with these promises.

The game still needs more work, but compared to a year ago, it is in a MUCH better state. Creative Assembly has established better communication with the community and bug fixes have occurred much more frequently. The more recent DLCs, such as Thrones of Decay and the upcoming Omens of Destruction, contain much more interesting new content alongside updates to existing factions and mechanics. There are still many bugs that need squashed, but there are very few bugs that significantly affect gameplay.

A year ago I would have not recommended this game, but now I encourage you to get it. There is a lot of DLC, but don't be intimidated by that. It frequently goes on sale with deep discounts, and unlike games like Hearts of Iron 4 or Stellaris, these DLC packs do not contain necessary campaign-wide mechanics. You can buy them slowly over time, or not at all, if you are simply not interested in certain factions.

SONY HAVE REVERTED THE DECISION! MANDATORY PSN LINKING IS NO LONGER REQUIRED!

FOR DEMOCRACY!!!!!

Updated Review: 5/5/2024

I live in the U.S and already linked my Steam and pre-existing PSN account when I bought the game, so this change doesn't effect me, yet. This new requirement has literally BRICKED people's games. Countless people can no longer play the game that they paid good money for because of an arbitrary enforcement so Sony could pump up their PSN numbers for their precious shareholders.

This was SONY'S decision, not Arrowhead's. What a shame.

I normally don't leave reviews, but with the backlash of server issues leading to a lower score than I believe it deserves, here it is.

As of 2/23/24, I am able to log in instantly during peak hours. They've increased the max player cap to 700,000 people. On weekends, I would still expect a queue. Having said that, it's clear that they are working really hard to upgrade their network infrastructure and other back-end necessities.

When it comes to the raw game play, it's simply fantastic. There are a few bugs here and there, but for the most part, the actual game play works very well. The Battlepass system is not FOMO or greedy. I've only been playing for two days and have almost unlocked the "premium" version of the battlepass without spending a single dollar. My point is, it's not only possible to unlock it without spending money, it seems like the game actively encourages it.

When it comes to the subject of potential P2W elements, I simply say it doesn't exist. The weapons you unlock in the premium battle pass are variants of the regular weapons. They do add a few traits, but in my experience, offers little in the way of advantage. More or less, they are simply reskins.

Apart from the battlepass, the "premium" skins are NOT expensive. They are on a rotating schedule and cost $3-$4 for a whole set. In other words, if you spent $20 on premium currency, you'll have enough to get SEVERAL skins. In comparison to a game like Halo Infinite, they are dirt cheap.

I also see a lot of negative reviews surrounding the anti-cheat. Honestly, some do make some decent enough points. The company supplying the anti-cheat software has had a number of potential security issues in the past. They seem to be decent enough, but it is also a kernel-level anticheat. I hate to say it, but with how sophisticated some cheating software is nowadays, kernel-level anticheat is quickly becoming the new normal. Either way, I don't really care.

The only thing I care about is if the game is fun. Like I said above, it just is. If you are a fan of Deep Rock Galactic, Starship Troopers Extermination, Left 4 Dead, or any other co-op PvE game in existence, you will LOVE this game. It's over the top, suspenseful, exhilarating, challenging, and most important of all, PRO-DEMOCRACY!

See you on the frontlines, Helldiver!

I have played every Bethesda title since The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. In fact, Morrowind was the first RPG I ever remember playing. To this day, Morrowind is one of my favorite RPGs and I put it up there with some of the best games ever made.

Starfield is not Morrowind. If you told me that Starfield was not made by Bethesda, I would have believed you if not for the very recognizable look and feel of the Creation Engine.

Bethesda games have always had their flaws but they were always overshadowed by the amazing experience of exploring these hand crafted worlds. You never knew what you'd find around the next corner.

Exploration has been replaced with fast travel and menus. What little secrets exist are simply landmarks already marked on your "map". There is no wonder, no mystery and no emotion. This is not a Bethesda game, but it was unfortunately made by them.

Starfield is easily one of the worst RPGs I have ever played. Is it a terrible game? No. But it is a terrible RPG.

I'm 50 hours in and I still haven't reached Act II yet. This is not because of boring fetch quests, useless exploration or unintuitive mechanics. It's because I've spent so much time getting Lae'Zel to just love me.

It's about time we get a game that respects our time and money. To all you developers who think this shouldn't be a reason for players to raise their standards need to take a good long look in the mirror. The customer is always right in matters of taste. If you choose to make lackluster content and charge $70 (plus microtransactions) for it, you deserve to be ridiculed and laughed at. But most of all, you deserve to lose your job.

Welcome to 2023.

VOID Interactive is a small studio, even by Indie standards. They comprise of "11-50" employees, but according to their LinkedIn, only 10 are officially registered. While I have no knowledge on each individual developer's experience, Ready or Not is VOID's first game. Yet, this unfinished product is still more polished and refined than most AAA games that have come out in recent times.

We live in a really weird age of video gaming. Massive companies have swallowed up most of the studios we knew and loved growing up. Games are bigger and better looking than ever and produced by studios that have a literal ocean of potential, but they are hallow like the chocolate turkeys your grandma gets from See's Candies every year. Despite their nigh infinite resources of money and talent, games have grown stale at best and complete money grabbing rip-offs at worst. Battlefield 2042 is a husk of a Battlefield game, Cyberpunk was half-baked, Call of Duty is just more of the same and Halo is a micro-transaction ridden bug fest.

Here we arrive at Ready or Not. Somehow, this tiny little studio has published an EARLY ACCESS TITLE that is more refined and polished than any AAA title released in the last two years within it's genre:

- The gun play is fantastic. Each weapon has unique characteristics, sounds and they are all satisfying to use.
- The movement, while slow, is precise and fluid.
- The maps that are finished are well designed, maze-like levels and very atmospheric.
- The graphics and lighting are the cherry on top.
- The game is challenging and always keeps you on your toes.
- Great modding community, even now.

Despite being a tactical FPS with movement far slower than most modern players are used too, I think it's a game anyone can enjoy, especially while playing with friends. It's very teamwork oriented and there's ALWAYS something for someone to do. Each level gets populated with enemies and civilians randomly. You could know the map like the back of your hand, but you'll still be surprised by where enemies could be hiding.

Okay, I've talked a lot about the greatness of this game, but no early access title is without issues:

- Completed maps are few in number right now.
- The A.I, while improved from a month ago, still needs a good amount of work.
- While the core game play is there, many things are still unfinished.
- Gun play is solid, but there is not a lot of weapon variation.
- Assault rifles, while numerous, tend to be somewhat redundant when compared against other rifles.
- There aren't any maps where a mid to long ranged rifle can truly shine.
- The game needs more close ranged choices.
- Stability can SOMETIMES be an issue. While I haven't ran into any performance issues myself, I do get the occasional crash.

While my list of pros was shorter than my list of cons, I still believe this game has A LOT more good than bad. Now, here are some things I hope to see in this game.

- The game needs a map. I don't care if it's only a rudimentary blueprint of the level, but it needs something.
- Rework the pre-game lobby so players can form a plan of attack
- Levels with larger open spaces.
- More modern tactical gear such as drones
- SHORT-BARRELED RIFLES
- A battle royale (just kidding)
- Wider variety of weapon attachments. Not just scopes, but underbarrel launchers or shotguns.
- The potential for enemy A.I to remove the restraints off another enemy A.I.

Overall, this game shows REAL potential. I know we've all heard that before from early access titles, but this time it's different. The core game is there, all it needs now is more polish and more content. This is how an early access title should be. This is the SWAT game we've all wanted for years, even in it's current state.
