Sketching is a crucial tool for any designer, used to get ideas onto paper for analysis and development. The ideation sketching skills that engineering and design students use are a real-time demonstration of rapid realisation of ideas from the cognitive realm to physical mediums such as paper or tablets. Evidence of cognitive chunking in freehand sketching during design ideation by Mao, Galil, Parrish and Sen is a study into the existence and depth of cognitive chunking during the sketching procedure. This journal article was published in the peer-reviewed journal, Design Studies, in Volume 67, which was published in March 2020. Due to this recent publish date, this article is yet to be sited in any academic works as noted in Google Scholar.
