Its a good rpg with a LOT of side content to it. It didn't need an economy, mini games or faction specific weapons and ships, but here we are, frosting sprinkles and fruit slices on a hearty ship brawler cake.

Arrowhead games made an excellent live service game hat leaned into he charismatic evil of old cartoons. We all love that.
We don't love Sony seeing the game succeed while not pandering and deciding to install a community manager.
We absolutely hate Sony misconstruing a team release as a psn not required grace period after the fact. We know why, people are canceling their psn subscriptions and losing their accounts over Sony censoring Stellar Blade.
DEI vampires have team blue entirely under heir thumb and they wont let anyone make anything fun or appealing to look at. Helldivers almost escaped, it just exists to pad Sony's number while its still popular.

do i reccomend?

much like the bosses this has already been spoiled for you but i'm going to do as all the missions with bosses require and redo it with a more optimized and ruthless focus.

I would recommend this for the shakeup to normal corridor and battle royal/open world things in the video game space. It is very far from both the roguelike ARPG craze that vampire survivors lit some C4 under and the teamshooter fps mobas that Overwatch tried to epitomize.

For all the single player, discrete missions and customization it's a wonderful return to form. You don't need to spend any more money than what you bought it with to get to everything.

except for medical bills.

there is some QoL that fromsoft definately DID NOT do and it reuins my whole enjoyment of the game for me. it is not smooth, it is barely responsive, if there is more than one enemy on screen at once then good luck swapping that lock on perpose, or getting it to stay still.

In a game where ammo, armor and not killing everything all cost money and bosses all but force specific builds it does something agreegous and forces the player to slow down to deal with all the random jank. Want to swarm out your missiles so they hit everything, better hope noone is trying to shoot at you then cause that 2 seconds can leave you half dead. Wanna use direct fire shoulder weapons? better be using the treads or spider legs cause there aint no goin when you let out that fire. Want machine guns all over? better slog through all of the first 2 acts with the patience of a saint because avery thing from the melee hitboxes to just being in the air is going to hurt you.

i come from the land of AC2 and TF2 the mech one, i played hawken as much as i could when it was out and never before have i played something with this level of the camera is narrow and gets dragged around. Never have i witnessed jumping up takes more energy that blazing around at the speed of sound. Only in legends on early access have i heard of something like the superboost mega doge will keep going no matter what you are running into.

No matter what you do traversal is not responsive or snappy, and that is lethal in a game like this. as vertical as the environments are here going up is a pain, mostly because the fastest and most efficient way to move is locked to about 45 degrees up or down from the horizon, oh and it turns slow.

Oh yea your 70 fov camera also turns slow normally too, but it also tries to snap to enemies so they and their shots are blocked by the whole backside of your mech. Because the camera wants to snort ass as much as your mech wants to snort wall dust. Both will lock onto whatever random ♥♥♥♥ they feel like because the targeting priority is so ungodly opaque that you might as well ignore the free damage that is a melee weapon and take a pistol in that slot.

sweeping blade of sunfire and death: hitbox of a toothpick. it doesn't get better with the pile bunker, that ♥♥♥♥ has a stance that aims it up, and all the enemies taper toward their top so you have to use it from the air so the lunge doesn't land you at the big toe of the sprawling spider you're trying to kill with an explosive penetrator.

and enemies will punish you for this jank

Most have a cannon or missile barrage that you can dodge if you see, but narrow camera snorting ass means you have kite every encounter or completely loose sight of anything that is anywhere around you and directly infront of you.

if you can get past having no options to change button, camera, lock on and melee behavior then you only have the hurdle of learning to love a fixed fov bullet hell game with alot of loss spirals.

Runs pretty well considering the whole thing ignores my gpu, its a cottage cheese smooth 45 fps for me mmmhmmm

hawken 1 was a skill based arena shooter with a distinct artistic style, soundtrack and mechanics. The movement was halting and weighty, the health bars long and difficult to restore, the bullets endless but weapons need to disperse heat. Of the things i can say are the same is the map verticality and thats really kindof it.

Combat pacing is close, but without any ability to heal yourself replaced by a passive shield its been turned into a waiting game staying behind cover while a blue bar goes up after a delay. Enemies die about as fast or a little slower in the same weight class but there are too many light units to really appreciate the other mechs you'll be ignoring.

Mobility is faster, by a margin, i can't say it feels as weighty as you bounce off oblique slopes and subtly clamber over ledges but you don't have the same responsiveness. You don't stop on a dime, you surf, once you start trying to overlap commands the speed goes from muddling to damn near hedgehog levels.

Sounds are similar, the dna is there, if you look for it. music tracks in the loading screen and underneath combat share the papersound synth backed orchestra but idle music and menus don't have the music that could set the tone for missions or just vibe like doom 2016 does, just sinking into the attitude and luxuriating in it. Weapons have recognizable sounds but its even more detached, some are ripped directly some have been remixed but none have the same thump and drum of the originals

Shooting probably takes the worst hit. The floaty fluttery attitude of movement is only reinforced by the flitting flickering of the gunfire, tracers and hit markers are barely there, almost no sparks or smoke from impacts, shots into entities like trees or turrets are almost entirely void of FX work and hitting static pieces of the map show a generic hit marker with a subtle glow that falls off over time.

You use magazines now, you have to keep your health through the whole mission, you do some pretty generic bitchwork, active abilities and equipment are gone (though there might be space for them unlocking further on than i am) but i can't say it isn't hawken, it's just not hawken 1

devs, darken up the cockpit please and add some customization, the texture selection, saturation and scale from H1 was good, put it in plz

seems like your standard predatory mobile game with exponential cost increases and constant popups.

even if i disagree with some of the style, i don't notice any cheating and all the gameplay is good.
currency is overpriced and out of reach for free to play and i assume previous season's loot is out of reach but its well worth if for the pace and style of gameplay.
I wish for three things: bounties for coins, alternatives to portals (like grappling hooks or sensor knife) and alternative jumps (like doublejump and wallkick)

i hate economy sims. i really do hate them. because there is no back button is i don't know what decision to make, there is no back button if i find my old account's log in information, there's a huge star map and all the ♥♥♥♥ you need to know is in the least intuitive form possible.

If i cannot log in properly
If i cannot read the ui properly
If i lack the patience to parse threw three novels to choose which pages to rip for my backstory
if i have to wrestle with controls i am not going to give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about any of the rest of it

you all flight sim junkies will love this ♥♥♥♥, though i can't say i recommend using hotas here so you'll have to fish your mouse and keyboard out of the trashbin again

aircraft controls still annoying as ♥♥♥♥, why is roll on mouse, why is half the aim on the keyboard, i get pandering to hotas setups but ffs we have an industry, it has standards. Put the aim on mouse, if the aim cannot keep up with the mouse make it move a target that is being compensated toward. if nothing else include the ability to rebind mouse controls in the menu

If you are looking for something with good customization and buildcrafting with stats having an observable effect on combat then i'm sorry to say you're out of luck.
Weapons are straightforward and simple, there are no effects on kill/hit/reload that do anything and elements are disappointingly simple: non elemental, digital, fire and electric. The elements don't do much aside from sidestep resistances so it's usually best to figure out whether you want to upgrade two elemental guns or use an ability to make all your damage digital (no weapon has digital dmg by default)
Gear is as simple with points that add to your stat sheet that only effect gameplay in health and energy pools or some neglegable effect like stagger resistance (was never staggered throughout my playthrough)
Instead of having a skill tree that enhances or augments various types of abilities your skill points are just a currency to buy more stats. In theme with cyberpunk, literally every ability and weapon is either dropped or bought over the course of playing and none of them have any barrier to use.
The only stat check is for your cyberdeck which you might occasionally find upgrade tokens for, but you don't spend those, they are automatically slotted into your thing. It's be fine if it didn't take five of those to get the first upgrade, but after upgrade 1 they all come a lot quicker. (i suspect i missed one because i'm 1 away from being able to open all the doors, i think, i haven't found one ice 3 door)
The game is pretty and sounds nice, but i beat it and all but i think five sidequests in 21 hours. Its good, but it's not very deep, like a shot of real good wine. I kinda just want a lil more width and breadth.
