TL;DR: It's the most beautiful sensation of dread and worry I've ever had.

This game makes you feel what it's like to scrape by and know the face of dread and even despair. If you want to expierince what the real effects of war are like, this game is for you. The struggle you feel with your characters proved to be the most compelling experience I've ever had in a video game. The game can, eventually, get to the point where you understand it enough to get through most-all scenarios and avoid most of the tragedy, but it took me about 40-50 hours of gameplay to get to that point. I'm guessing most people won't play that much, but you don't have to. The experience of just one playthrough is enough to justify the price. The writing is fantastic, each character keeps a journal affected by the events of the game and how you influenced them. It adds a layer of depth that draws you towards them even more.
As far as cons go, there aren't all that many. There are a few par for the course aspects of the game, things that don't really stnad out that much and maybe could have used a little more work. For example, the combat fits the moods of the game but it feels a bit mediocre in contrast to the quality of the tone of the game. If I really try to stretch and find something wrong with the game, the sound design in the effects could have been improved a bit, like the door knocking and the gunshot sounds, but this is an EXTREMELY minor point and it's not anythign that pulls me out of the game.

Overall, play it. It's an experience I think everyone should have.
