Aegis Defenders brings a unique combination of tower defense and platformer that encourages 2 player couch co-op to help its protagonists, Bart and Clu, on a journey to find a legendary weapon that could save their village from a ruthless Empire. The story is respectable enough though not mind-blowing, and is adequate enough to keep things progressing.

This is a game that had a distinct goal in mind of combining mechanics into something unique and does fairly well in that regard. Each character is able to construct their own tools (Bart can build turrets, while Clu builds traps) and both can combine their efforts to build even stronger weapons against the hordes trying to destroy whatever particular objective our two heroes need to defend. When playing alone, players can switch between the two with the tap of a button, though initially it feels awkward and takes time to adjust to it. Before these tower defense segments occur though, players will have an exploration phase to wander the terrain with platforming and puzzles to solve.

Metacritic scores give this a 76/100, which seems fair to me, though my opinion might increase if I had any time with this as a co-op. Worth experimenting with if you can get it on sale I'd say.

I feel like I shouldn't say anything, as it's best experienced with no knowledge at all on what to expect. Play it if you like RPGs and do not expect anything normal. I've completed two routes in 3 days and will probably do another soon. It's just...wonderful.

This is a gorgeous, emotionally powerful platformer that is heavy on exploration. As you gain new abilities and experience in using them, you'll find yourself performing mesmerizing acts of acrobatics. You'll need those skills, as Ori's journey is challenging with segments that require some problem solving and great timing. As you overcome these obstacles you'll get that feeling of satisfaction every gamer craves and be eager for the next one. The music scores the adventure very well and combined with every other aspect in the game, adds the finishing touch to create a game that feels like playing a Miyuzaki film.

It's very easy to be immersed in this game and once you are, you don't want to leave.

This is a solid if not very casual collectible card game. Cards are placed in a 3x3 grid and when the arrows are aligned between enough cards they cause an effect. There's a few options on how to win: lower an opponent's health to zero from attacks or from taking damage when their deck runs out (a way to win with mill-type decks). Another option is to disable their cards, forcing their grid to fill up. If they can't play a card, they lose.

It's this third option that turns out to be the easiest to exploit, making the game extremely easy. I enjoy the game but without tougher AI this will only get a single playthrough from me. However, I will enjoy the ride.

This is such a good rogue-like with a fantastic premise. I was part of the Kickstarter funding for this game and I have to say, worth every dollar I spent. One of those great games you can return to every once in a while for a quick session and come away satisfied.

I miss games like this: the old vertical-scrolling shooter genre with dozens of enemies all blasting at once, forcing you to carefully maneuver through a field of shiny blinking bullets. This is a fun one with a decent amount of replay value to it and some great music. I'm unsure about $10 but when it's on sale I'd definitely consider it.

A very fun platformer with a unique edging mechanic that creates some cool challenges. One I think I'll be going back to every once in a while to enjoy this stylistic timekiller.

I shouldn't even have to recommend it. If you like platformers just a tiny, tiny amount, you have to own this. The difficulty is challenging but quick respawning keeps you thinking, "I got it this time," and it's a wonderful reward to see all your deaths in the replay to show how much effort it took. Great unlockable characters with their own abilities and challenges, a hilarious story....really, there's a heck of a lot in here.

This is an absolutely fantastic game. Cavanagh did a wonderful job at designing level that continue to use the flipping mechanic in new and interesting ways. The chip-tune music is fantastic and keeps you pumped while the short respawn times help keep the no-mercy difficulty manageable. Surprisingly, it even has good replay value: after beating the game and grabbing all trinkets new challenges pop up. I highly recommend this for gamers needing a fun challenge.
