TLDR: it's a flawed masterpiece, go buy it.

If I were to describe this game with one word, it would be - "marathon". It's a long, arduous journey that wants to break you every step of the way. And yet it rewards you like nothing else can - by a genuine feeling of progression, the beauty of the world you're experiencing, the joy of exploring something unique.

+ The world is very detailed, quite dense, full of surprises, varies from Ukrainian villages to soviet laboratories
+ Shooting feels great, sounds and feedback are meaty
+ Story is very convoluted, but rooted in philosophy of choices and freedom, full of sci-fi themes
+ Voices and acting is great (Scar's in particular), play it in Ukrainian
+ Very familiar for old time fans (most mechanics are straight from the original trilogy)
+ Difficulty is just right - you'll die a lot, but imho that's better than being unkillable with no sense of danger. However, there are bull**** moments like the Faust fight
+ The economy - you'll think carefully about managing your funds because everything is very expensive
+ The potential here is limitless, I can see new expansions, stories, locations, the foundation is very strong to become at least as cult as the originals

- Way too long, 60+ main story hours, that's more than the original trilogy with all of side content combined
- Lighting is weird, most of the indoor fights are hard because you can't see anything, it's too dark. Enemies can see you just fine though and won't hold back. I hope the devs add night vision goggles or something
- Too much running around. Oh, I said running, I meant walking slowly because you are encumbered. I don't think the mechanic is bad, but the design can be improved, e.g. you find unique weapons and armour during the main mission 2km from the nearest base, so there is a choice - leave them there or spend half an hour walking back slowly while barely anything happens. Bringing back CoP fast travel could be a good addition
- Some encounter designs are plainly awful - e.g. the swamp emission sequence, you'll often climb a ladder into a bunch of enemies or start a fight right after the dialogue which pulls your weapons down
- At some point half of the Zone starts wearing exoskeletons, which feels out of place. You'll need 2-5 headshots to take enemies down depending on the assault rifle you're using, and it's not fun
- At the time of writing there are minor bugs, nothing game breaking, but the devs fix them rapidly

Overall, it's a great game and a work of love with lots of content if you're up for the challenge.

Far from perfect, but Chernobylite exceeded my expectations. It has engaging exploration loop and the story is very non-linear with your decisions having real consequences. Imagine sci-fi time travel multiverse stalker. It's weird (the story, the characters, the structure), yet fun. The game has a lot of cultural references and shows the soviet regime as it were: brutal, double-faced, cruel, and oppressive towards its own population.
It's a survival game with stealth and combat elements, so most of your time is going to be gathering resources, building your base, and managing your companions, which can become repetitive, but the game ended just it time for me.

Two areas where the game could be improved:
- Stealth and combat are very basic, mostly a disappointment, thankfully you are not forced to do them often
- Story choices always make certain companions dislike you. I understand what the devs were going for here, they give you the options to alter decisions, but at some point it becomes so frustrating, you'd rather go into the final mission solo instead of having these whiny crybabies around (which I imagine is a real option in the game, didn't try).

I was hesitant to buy it given a lot of mixed reviews, but I am glad I did. It's a very fun FPS where the main components: shooting and movement, feel great. The environments are superb as well. However, it's not without flaws, some animations are janky and the designers decided on a very weird equipement/loot system. Overall, definitely recommend!

It's an all-time classic, what else is there to say. Just play it.

If you've always liked card games but Hearthstone or MTG or Gwent felt overwhelming due to deck building, this will be a godsend.

The game is very complex and addictive, yet simple to learn. Every character has multiple different play styles and random rogue-like nature keeps every run unique and engaging. Randomness is very well tuned so that final (optional) boss is still extremely challenging, and you will fail it due to bad card/relic drops, but doable. At the same time, base bosses can be consistently beaten with good strategies.

I think it's a "must have" game in every library for the potentially infinite replayability, no hardware requirements, and chill vibe.

This should have been called Dark Hades Souls.

Jokes aside, I liked it more than Hades (even though Hades is a 10/10 game), because it is mostly skill-based, you don't need to grind for ingame currencies to progress. There is no story here, so your main motivation to keep playing is increasing difficulty and satisfying combat.

The game is brutal at times (the reveal of the final boss is rage-inducing the first time you get there). However, most of the enemies are well designed with clear and well-telegraphed attacks, so it's all about you learning their patterns. It took me around 20 hours to finish base temples, and than around 50 hours to finish hard-mode temples - they basically expect you to play perfectly, dodging almost every attack and stacking optimal relics+weapons. For those who want 100% achievements - do not buy, one of the achievements is way too difficult to get, you'll need to learn every boss move and defeat them without getting hit 10 times each.

Curses are a very interesting mechanic for a roguelike, they seem as penalties at first, but soon you learn that some of them are actually quite helpful, and use this to your advantage.

Anyway, it's great, I hope they make a sequel.

I love dense urban environments in first person games (e.g. Deus Ex's Prague), and this one is a great example of that. Overall, it's a very atmospheric and interesting RPG, which tried to be an immersive sim, but ended up more like Fallout. It's worth buying for the quests, characters, and setting, but the combat, boss designs, and balancing are a mixed bag.

Side note: the game is very buggy and feels unfinished, even with the unofficial patch. Second to last boss is plainly unbalanced even if you went through most of the side content, had to use cheats to progress. Consider this before buying

I love M&B: Warband and hoped this would just be a reskin into medieval Eastern Europe. But they've actually made it worse by removing tournaments (no easy and fun way to earn money, now you need to grind caravans for a hundred hours to buy what you want) and adding guns (which 1-2 shot you at the start of the game, so you can't take 1v10 fights). This basically means early-mid game is painfully boring where you either hire some mercs and no one attacks you or you don't build a party and everyone wipes the floor with your corpse

It's an ok FPS for its time. However, it's inferior to the original F.E.A.R. in every way except how some of the environments look

It's almost 2024 and this game still has the best enemy AI out of any FPS
