ROCK AND STONE, ALONE

While still in early access, this Survivors-like spin on Deep Rock Galactic has already proven to be worth your time. That is if you like Survivors-like games. It doesn't reinvent the wheel but instead puts a unique spin on the source material.

The mechanic of mining materials has been added to the rather basic gameplay formula of the genre, and while not the first to use this (I believe Repetendium came first), it has more to offer. The base gameplay involves shooting bugs, running away from them, while also mining through the terrain and collecting mission objectives, whether that is minerals or else. Meta upgrades are available in the menus to enhance your weapons and classes to better suit higher difficulties and that is where mining other minerals comes in.

Updates have changed a lot over the months, progression was overhauled practically overnight and balances are frequent. While many Survivors-like games are a breeze, I think here you can have a slight challenge, every now and then.
There is quite a bit of content, but it requires you to farm the same thing over and over again, something not unusual for this genre or the original game.

DRG:S is great value for both Survivors-like enjoyers as well as Deep Rock Galactic players looking to expand their horizon in a style that isn't too far from familiar grounds. Looking forward to more updates to this.

FOR KARL!

Hellpoint follows the already so well known "Souls-like" gameplay. And it does many things incredibly well.
It might be my new favourite "Souls-like" game.

Most Souls-like games do some things well, but fall short on others.
While that's also the case here, I'd say Hellpoint is the closest to the "feel" of Dark Souls.

Gameplay loop of this game is just Dark Souls. You kill enemies which nets you souls, or AXIOMS in this case.
You unlock breaches that act mostly like bonfires. You can rest at them to fill your healthbar, but it will not fill your equipped healing items to maximum. You gain healing items (and energy) by dealing damage and you will respawn with 2 no matter if you have upgraded yours to +5. You need to earn those heals.

You need to fast travel or die in order to respawn the enemies.
Fast travel works between these breaches, but you need to connect them together in order to use them. Breach synchronizers are items that allow you to do hit. These are limited so you need to think a bit when to use them.

Breaches also allow you to level up your character (does not require you to use a Breach Synchronizer) and to Increase or Decrease the difficulty of the game with items.

The atmosphere is something closer to the grimness of the first Dead Space game
and Alien. The mood of the Irid Novo space station is fantastic. The soundtrack also relies on ambience and is missing some of the more epic tracks the Souls games have but keeps the tension alive while not being distracting.

The Level Designs of this game is phenomenal. So many secret routes that connect different areas together. This is what most Souls-likes miss. The interconnection of different areas makes the world feel well designed. While not everything is connected, and there are loading screens between different areas, the way everything is linked together is so masterfully done, and in some parts it matches (or even surpasses) the source material. While the level design is one thing I praise about the game, budget of the game does affect this in a way.

Many of the areas look the same, and while it does make sense (as the game is set on a space station after all), I wonder what wonders the team could have done with more money. There are few areas with different themes, but many places just look like dark corridors without soul. Thankfully the level design more than makes up for it.

Other strong aside from Level Desing is the combat. While the animations might look a bit clunky at some points,
the feel of your attacks if satisfying and doesn't feel janky at all. Many of the weapons will be quite familiar with anyone who has played other souls-likes, so when you get your hands on them you should feel right at home.

Upgrading said weapons requires items, but those are not tied to weapons. You can remove those upgrades and put them to use on other weapons too which encourages trying different weapons and playstyles more.

Most of the enemies in Hellpoint are well designed and look nice visually. There are a few that look out of place in my opinion, but other than that no complaints. There is enough variety when you move from different areas to others, and none of the enemies feel
overwhelmingly difficult.

While most of the basic enemies are great, the bosses leave a lot to be desired. Many of the first bosses are later reused as enemies and I would classify as mini-bosses more than actual bosses. The "Actual" bosses are more special and I could see them appearing in Dark Souls. They do lack different phases but offer some challenge with their different movesets to dodge around.

Just like the father of this style of games, Hellpoint doesn't explain it's story too much. Slightly more than Dark Souls, but most of the lore is up to the player to find and understand. Doing some sidequests also allows for true ending, which is a great way to get people to play your game more than once. There is also a new game+ mode, so you can continue where you left off.

Overall, I was really surprised that a Souls-Like I never heard of before was this great and became one of my favourites in the ever increasing library of Dark Souls Clones.

There are few things I didn't mention here, but I feel like that's the most important stuff out of the way.
I hope more people give this game a change, it's much better than it might look at first glance (many saying it looks clunky).
Cradle Games has created a fantastic game and I hope they will continue and make more games like this, since they clearly excel at it.

Even in current state, the game is worth significantly more than 10€.
Fun in both Co-op and single player, enjoyable gunplay and entertaining gameplay loop.
I haven't experienced any major bugs, and even minor bugs and glitches are rare.

With more content added, this game can easily become a huge time sink. Currently it has around 40+ hours to max out the characters that are available. All I want is more characters, levels, scrolls and possibly "loop" feature similar to Risk Of Rain 2.

Not everything is quite balanced yet, but it allows for some really fun and OP runs, when the synergy of your weapons and scrolls is just right. So satisfying to melt through masses of enemies.

Easily worth 20-30€, especially with friends.
Highly recommend.

These outifts give more customization options to personalize your character. The skins are well made, but whether they are for you or not is up to debate. Everyone likes different skins, and this pack is good for some people, but I'd like something more classy from the next pack.

The idea of the DLC is great. It removes the random aspect of weapon skins, altough with a simpler look.
I like this. But at the same time 90% of the colors are DLC and should have been free.

WW3 Had a rough launch, but has managed to overcome most of it's issues. Upon my free weekend experience I didn't encounter any major glitches, bugs or crashes.

The gameplay is quite similar to Battlefield titles, I'd say closest to Battlefield 2 with modern quality of life elements etc.
I guess it wouldn't be wrong to call this a Battlefield clone. Whether that's a bad or good is up to you.

Gunplay feels tight, the game sounds great and while some of the animations might be a bit clunky, they do the job for me just fine.
The free weekend build was limited to one gamemode and map, so I can't judge the whole game based on those, but from what I did play I was impressed. The gamemode was quite similar to BF's Conquest, with slightly smaller maps. Only thing that is missing is the destruction, otherwise you could mistake this game for a BETA build (if that means anything these days) of Dice's own creation.

This isn't AAA-title, and thus I don't expect the same level of polish as EA's behemoth. Even if there are small issues, I'd say the game has come a long way since the problematic launch. Some further optimization is needed; while the game doesn't run terribly, it should run better. I was getting around 90-100fps on i7 7700k @4.8GHz, GTX 1070, 16GB DDR4 on 1080p.

There is more customization than in any BF title, and while the customization UI is a bit cluttered, everything is there to be found quite easily, unlike BF5's horrible customization menu. Look around some youtube videos of the thing to see how much there is to unlock, it's pretty crazy. It's what I've been wanting in modern Battlefield games, while Dice keeps simplifying their systems.

Being from a smaller studio, the game doesn't have the same massive audience that BF does. The game keeps improving, and I'm hoping upon all these small and large improvements and content additions, the players also come and stay. Free weekend brought some life to the game, and so did the sale. It's currently 15 bucks on the Steam Summer Sale, so I'd suggest giving it a try.

At first glance I didn't know that Factorio would be something I'd enjoy so much.
I bought the game about 2 years ago, yet only had 90 minutes of playtime. I can't remember the reason why I quit back then, but after launching it again, I might know the reason. Most likely I just didn't know what to do, and didn't want to spend the time back then to learn. Maybe this 2 years was something I needed in order to try Factorio again. And when I did launch the game, I was a goner.

I played 16 hours straight, forgetting to drink or eat. I just wanted to build. This doesn't happen to me with video games often. You start Factorio quite simply by collecting few materials, and crafting your first few things by hand. That is just the beginning, and in a short time, you notice that you would do anything in order to automate your systems, eliminating the need to craft things by hand.

There are some tutorials in the game, but I have to say I skipped them. I don't know they are well made or not, but learning as I played was part of the fun. The fist savefile I played for about 20 hours. By that time I had learned so much, my factory could be so much more efficient. So I started a new save. Now knowing what to do a little bit better, I started to build my factory massively. I don't know if this was a mistake or not, but I wanted the factory to be big.

Now instead of putting together seemingly pointless lines of belts that carried my materials, I made them more efficient.
Everything in the same place. Building the whole thing took me forever, and I hadn't even started on oil when my friend (who played first time as well) had "completed" the game. But I wasn't trying to be fast.

I wanted my factory to be something that would last me the whole save. By building so large, my pollution levels were quite high. And that made some alien kiddos angry. I started getting more and more aggressive attacks to my base, and few turrets didn't seem to do the job. Sometime later my whole factory was surrounded my wide stonewalls, and sentries in every block. This took me a while to build, but it guaranteed that I didn't have to worry about attacks anymore.

Expanding my automation one material at the time, I was slowly progressing. I had most of the building materials in one somewhat neat place, where I could just grab them from a splitter and not super messy like the first save.

I wanted everything automated. I mostly I did that. It took me about 70 hours to launch the rocket first time around, which is considered "completing" the game. There is a achievement doing this in 8 hours. When I went big on the first proper play, I enjoyed the game immensely. I already know many how how I would improve my next factory on my next save.
But I'm a bit scared to try again, 87 hours in pretty much one week. I need to do something else and come back later.

Absolute timekiller, and one of the deepest (if not the deepest) games I've ever seen.
Most likely the best 20€ I have ever spent. If this is still considered early access, most full games should be pre-alpha by the same standards. No bugs encountered(enemies are bugs but you know what I mean), zero crashes for me. And as a cherry on the top, a fantastic atmospheric soundtrack.

Beautiful orchestral soundtrack. That's all I say. I hope we get more pieces in future updates for new raids!

Quite fun and fast paced 1v1 multiplayer. Few special abilities and nice customization options.

There are singleplayer challenges, and multiplayer with both casual and ranked modes. Ranked is quite similar to Hearthstone's one, except you start from rank 12 and go to 1, after that you can gain Ace rank just like legendary in HS.

Fun online, I assume would be even more fun couch pvp, gotta try it out!

Pretty damn fun so far. Will update the review when I play some more.
Played gunrange + first mission.

So far it seems like you are in one place, no locomotion.
Reloading is the arcade way by taking your weapon to your hip, it automatically does it for you.

Anyway, more later.
