I adore this game.

The combat loop is so tight and the general execution of the 40k theme and how all the elements (especially music) come together ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slaps.

That being said, I cannot recommend this game.

TL:DR:

Seemingly abandoned by the devs. Last major patch was December 12 2023
Poor Performance
Bad version control means old bugs will pop back in
Egregious and lazy microtransactions ($10 for a reskin)
Outdated and disrespectful progression system

The performance is terrible. I'm on a fairly beefy computer that starts any other game (without RT) on ultra. This isn't me bragging, after all - I struggle to consistently even be at 60 FPS in this game and lowering settings doesn't seem to help. The game's performance degrades every patch, if we're lucky enough to get them.

On that note, let's talk about the patches. Where are they? The lack of updates and communication from the devs for this so called "live service game" has been so sparse that it would not be inaccurate if you were to say this game was abandoned. I feel for the community managers because they're trying their best when there's really nothing they can do about it.

But on that note, Fatshark's version control of this game is awful. There are constantly bugs that were supposed to have been ironed out that unfix themselves when we are lucky enough to get a hotfix or patch.

The crashes, the memory leaks, the loading times, the horrible frame rate and there's still so much to talk about.

Yet I have 281 hours in this game. Why? Because It's a phenomenal game when you are able to be immersed.

But back to the negative. We talked about performance. There's also the terrible microtransactions. Granted, they're all cosmetics but to say that the free cosmetics is limited would be an understatement. There is almost no free cosmetics minus the ones you get through the achievements/penances. The rest are in a highly marked up, rotating cosmetics store. When there was a 40k Spice traders collab, one skin pack cost the same as the actual Spice Traders game. But we've yet to see them again because predatory FOMO market strategies.

The community has constantly complained about several facets of this game from the horrendous crafting system that does not respect your time to the lessons that they learned from Vermintide 2 (previous game) seemingly missing.

Don't buy fatshark games.
