This review was made by a friend that i family share and can't post the review himself if he doesn't own the game. Please follow his curator page.

"Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg... And my arm... even my fingers... The body I've lost... the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting... It's like they're all still there. You feel it, too, don't you? I'm gonna make them give back our past!"
METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN is an open world third person stealth (optional) game. It is a combination of a movie and a video game, it got hours of cutscenes and the lore is more complex than any other video game or movie i know. I am not a big fan of lore in games and sometimes i just skip it and go straight after the gameplay, but it is not the same for this game. It made me read lots of long wiki pages on some characters, organizations and places (Do not do the same before completing the game for your own good. Spoilers are not fun).
The gameplay is great, as i mentioned earlier the stealth is optional and it can be played and enjoyed by loud and ruthless players too. It is a really long game so it is worth your money 3 or 4 times more than the average AAA title without counting replayability. There are a lot of options in weapons, vehicles and backup and you can choose one of the 4 available buddies to help you in your mission. Each buddy has different abilities that you unlock by increasing the bond level (which is also pretty easy, just don't let them get hurt and order them to do stuff a lot). The enemies also get small upgrades along the story, you have to change your techniques if they don't work anymore and i find this a great way of stopping the gameplay from being repetitive. I personally finished all the main missions and a few side ones in 100 hours and still have some other side missions and new difficulty ones to do. There are FOB raidings too, pretty much the only online part that is still alive. MGS online seems dead, couldn't find anyone to try it out with. FOB missions are about invading player bases for stealing resources and crew, its cost is that if you fail or get spotted the one invaded knows who you are and can invade back.
The graphics are pretty damn good and the optimization is great, i ran it on almost max settings with stable 60 fps (capped) on GTX 1050 4GB (laptop), i5-8250U and 8GB RAM DDR4. My laptop didn't even make a lot of noise and it didn't get very hot, so if you got a similar system i bet you can run it on max easily. The soundtrack is nice and there are featured licensed songs released in the early '80s, which is good for the game's atmosphere, since that is when the story takes place. There are a lot of menus in this game, they look good and have satisfying sound effects.

There are parts i didn't like too. The helicopter takes too much time artificially. After doing a mission you are all bloody and want to go to Mother Base and take a shower. You have to call the helicopter, wait for it, get in, wait for it to traver long enough so you would close its door, wait for the game to load and press a button, use your idroid and go to mother base, wait for the loading screen again to press a button, waiting for it to get down and FINALLY getting out of the helicopter. It takes too much time and you can't do something else meanwhile, because you still need to press a few buttons. If you want to get to other platforms of the Mother Base you have to drive there in a vehicle. The road is too long and again, you can't do other stuff while doing it, maybe listening to cassettes at best. There is no reason for them to be this long, i think the road to other platforms should be at least half as long.
The upgrades take too much time. I understand it would be ridiculous to upgrade weapons instantly, but it goes from instantly for low tier to 18m, 36m, 1 hour and a few minutes, a few hours and to my surprise, one weapon that i didn't really need, but that i upgraded only because i had money made me wait 4 days. If i really wanted that gold tier heavy machine gun i would be pissed off badly.
The DLCs are ridiculous, at how much content there is in this game they are almost nothing and shouldn't cost money, yet they do. I never used the suits, i have them only because the bundle that included Ground Zeroes had them too and was only a few dollars more. Honestly there is no reason to buy them, you're wasting money.
The main story wasn't finished, Snake gets robbed of his secret weapon by an annoying brat and you don't get to see him again. If that scene wasn't in the game i would consider it complete, it's like starting a new chapter and leaving it after the introduction.
You see credits everywhere. Even if you don't want you will remember Hideo Kojima's name. At the start of every mission you will see his name credited, then some other credits for the people that made the missions. I think they did a great job making this game but i'd rather have all the credits at the end of the game only. I guess it's just his ego.

Pros
Cons
Photorealistic graphics with great optimization and nice soundtrack
Too much helicopter waiting time and long rides to other Mother Base platforms
Fun gameplay and comfortable for multiple types of players
Annoying weapon upgrade times
Captivating story
Bait DLCs that should have been free
A LOT OF CONTENT
-
The game doesn't get repetitive, enemies get upgrades along with you

Even though it got some bad parts, they can be partially ignored. It is overall a great game and part of my top 10. Never played a Metal Gear game before and this one was just great for introducing me to this confusing complex world. I would play this again.

9.5/10
