ABOUT Wiser Words

Because, sometimes, you just need a break.

Wiser Words is a group built around the principles of being more mindful of how you communicate, and how your communication can affect and influence others. A little consideration can go a long way, and an awareness of what communicative behaviors are beneficial or detrimental can inspire a positive change, even on a small level. It's a tiny thing, with a far bigger impact than it's given credit for.

There are a lot of awful events that happen every day, online and offline, and sometimes you want somewhere to escape to; this is one of Wiser Words's functions. It can be a safe zone or sanctuary, where you can go to detox and unwind without having to stress. Maintaining a comfortable atmosphere is one of our primary goals.
Another function of the group is as a hub for those seeking out likeminded peers — people who are conscious of how what we say matters, and how being smarter about that can be positive for ourselves and others.
Yet another function the group serves is as a gaming hub. Take a look see at the associated games pane for an idea of what sort of games people here can get up to!

Everyone is welcome to join; we do not discriminate. Our only demands are that you, too, do not discriminate. To participate in the group and its activities, you must agree to abide by the guidelines.

Halloween Raffle!
How to Participate
  1. Show up to chat at the times and dates listed in the schedule below, and pick a single number between 0 and 256 when asked. Once you pick one, that's your choice — no changing it!
  2. A random number in the aforementioned range will be chosen using http://www.random.org/. The person who chose the closest number wins!
  3. If you win, you'll get to pick whether you want a standard Steam key, Humble Bundle Steam gift, Indie Gala steam gift, Desura key, or Origin key prize, and then choose another number in a different range. This number determines which game you win!

Schedule
Raffles will occur on October 24th, 26th, 28th, 30th, and 31st (Halloween), at 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, and 8:00 AM; and 7:00 PM, 7:30 PM, and 8:00 PM GMT. (If not in GMT, use This service[wwp.greenwichmeantime.com] to convert the times to your own time zone![/i])

    Rules
  1. Only members of Wiser Words from on or before October 17th, 2014 are eligible to participate. No joining just to nab prizes.
  2. Staff are not allowed to participate.
  3. You cannot have been banned from group events or the group itself.
  4. You can only win one game per hour of raffles, except for the Halloween sets. Those will have special rules!
  5. Feel free to give away or trade your prize. Once it's yours, it's yours to do with as you see fit.
  6. Don't be a jerk, whether you win or lose. Negative or disruptive behavior could get you barred from participating, or even cost you your prize. Don't ruin the fun!

A full list of prizes can be viewed HERE! (Yes, since there's only one prize each for the Desura key and Indie Gala Steam gift categories, picking that category means you just get that prize by default.) As prizes are claimed, they'll be crossed out of the list.

Will you get a trick or a treat? There's only one way to find out! Except they're all treats, just of varying quality.

"Sometimes, without thinking, we do small evils with superficiality and indifference because we are distracted, or because our mind is elsewhere. But those actions, which seem without importance to us, for another person, in a particular moment, can result grave, terrible, destructive."
