Steam Soundtrack Sale FAQ

What's new with soundtracks?

Soundtracks can now be managed independently of the game they belong to. You can buy and listen to a soundtrack without owning or downloading the base game. You can also control where your soundtrack content goes, including separating it from your game library if you want.

Additionally, we've added support for higher-quality audio formats. In addition to standard MP3s, many soundtracks now contain lossless audio files.

Lastly, we've been working with hundreds of partners to bring a huge variety of new soundtrack content to Steam for both Steam and non-Steam games. This process is ongoing.
Where do I find my soundtracks in the Steam library?

Soundtracks show up in the Library automatically, but can also be filtered via the dropdown on the left-side of the Library view. Individual soundtracks can be managed like any other content in the Library. You can play, browse files, and view art from within Steam.
What formats are soundtracks available in?

By default, every soundtrack contains a full set of MP3 files. Soundtracks can also contain a free secondary set of audio files (for example, FLAC) that offer higher quality than compressed MP3s. These files are often larger and many customers prefer just the MP3s, so downloading these additional files is optional. You can opt in to larger downloads on the Music page in Steam Settings.
What about soundtracks I bought as DLC?

You continue to own all Soundtracks that you owned before. You don't need to do anything to access the new features. When a developer converts from DLC to the new format, you'll see the soundtracks appear in the "Soundtracks" section in your Steam Library. Soundtrack content will automatically download into your Steam music folder.
Why are some of the soundtracks on the store still listed as DLC?

Before releasing the new soundtrack features, Steam had thousands of soundtracks available as DLC. Developers have been actively updating their existing content but with such a huge backlog it takes a little time. Content will automatically update in your library as it gets converted.
I have questions you didn't answer!

For more details about the new content and the new Steam library interface, you can look at the Soundtracks & Steam Music Player support page.
