3689, Fallen Empire

Within the galaxy rules two powerful governments, and a handful of large megacorportations. The first of the governments is the Terran Empire, a feudalistic and moncarch-inspired government led by the Emperor, his council, and the various powerful houses. The second of the two givernments is the Cygnus Federation - all that stands for freedom and independance. The Cygnus Federation severed themselves from the Terran Empire at the time of the Great War with the aliens known as the Hadarans. At the time, they were simply known as the Cygnus Liberation Front.

Even through their massive differences, the Terran Empire and the Cygnus Federation managed to work out a cease fire that they reluctantly hope to turn into something of an official Alliance later on. However, a high classed Terran Empire embassy ship had disappeared on it's way to a diplomatic meeting with the Federation. Suspisions aroused and accusations flew about as each of the ships in question had simply vanished. With the grace of the Empire and the Federation, a small Mercenary team was hired to get to the bottom of this issue as soon as possible and figure out who is responsible without the governments having to get directly involved.

Just an upstart Mercenary group led by a lost captain, it soon began to gain fame from all across the Galaxy. The group seemed incredibly talented at what they did, and soon earned the name 'The Swords of Hadran', after their leader Henry Hadren. After several months, the group uncovered the secrecy behind the plot of the missing diplomatic vessels and it was determined that members of the Old Nations, known as the Americans, had been lurking in the shadows of space for several years with a ship of unequal power to back them. Forced in a position to defend the galaxy and keep it from falling into chaos, the Swords of Hadren went against all odds and managed to seize the ship from the inside. It was over, and the galaxy was safe, thanks to the crew. From thereon, this group was praised with the monicker; the 'Swords'. Some of the heroes went on to pursue their own agendas, while others embraced the profit that being a hero warranted.


3729, The Empire's Prime

It's been forty years since the near-fateful reappearance of the Old Nation Americans, and only two since the appointment of Emperor Aurelius Forgis, of whom much conspiracy surrounds him as to how he received the title. Ever since 3689, technology had began to advanced tenfold, and even moreso once Forgis had come into power. The Cygnus Federation has been left severely crippled economically due to their crushing debt to corporations and other beneificiaries to aid in their standby with the Empire. They are now considered obsolete. The heroes of the American Conflict have been praised and engraved into the stone of history as heroes of the galaxy since then, statues and effigies erected across stations and planets alike of these heroes - some individually and others as groups.

Two years after the conflict in 3689, Henry Hadren put aside his idea of an early retirement only to take the Empire's offer on a full-reinstatement and promotion to the rank of Commadore General. For another 37 years, Henry served within the Empire as a highly respected and admirable leader. With Forgis only as a Commodore General at the time, it was known that both Forgis and Hadren had their wildly different views and differences. with the old Emperor, Cratus Gregan II laid to rest, Forgis was appointed the next Emperor. Only a year later, Henry Hadren and his entire battalion went missing from action during a suicidal op to an unknown destination.

Ever since Forgis' election, things in the galaxy have begun to systematically turn themselves upside down. Entire corporations have been consumed and shutdown, their research confiscated by the greed of the Empire. Their new technology put to use, the Empire has applied it in areas of both military and scientific advancement. Devastating percentages of poverty have placed themselves within cities of the Empire, leaving the rich and upper-class to dominate, while the middle to low class are forced into less-than-appeasing circumstances. Crime and disobedience is dealt with harshly - and sometimes even with fatal consequences, leaving police teams with little patience and no leniance.

Smaller governments outside of the Empire's borders are being absorbed by the Empire's grasping hands and bringing them under their own banner for the sake of their greed. Leaving the border colonies to suffer and die, and absorbing the only other willing and able governments around them, the Empire was beginning to seize control of the galaxy.
