Discuss Steam's Review System

This group was created to discuss Steam's new review standard as announced September 14, 2016. Please maintain appropriate conduct and keep discussion friendly.

System particulars:

The initial settings display reviews both positive and negative, composed by those who purchased the associated game from Steam, and written in your language settings.
Review type may be changed to All, Positive, or Negative.
Purchase type may be changed to All, Steam Purchasers, or Key Activations.
Language may be changed to All Languages or Your Languages (customizable).
Display settings revert to the initial settings upon changing pages.
Settings configured for Your Languages are retained.
Ratings given by reviewers on games they did not acquire from Steam no longer influence recent and overall scores.

I made this group to discuss Steam's new review standard.
Since the new system is introduced the review scores from reviewers that bought their game outside Steam doesn't count anymore for the "overall" score on the storepage.

These include keys obtained via:

- Beta participant who bought the key with discount coupon from the developer/publisher
- Kickstarter's
- Someone bought directly via developer/publisher (dedicated fans)
- Retail copies that need activation on Steam
- Collector's editions that needs activation on Steam
- Pre-order games/DLC directly from developer/publishers
- Bundle offers
- Third party resellers like Humble Bunlde/Greenman etc
- Free giveaways
- Press/review copies

Since many people put time and effort in writing reviews about games bought outside Steam I don't think it's fair that their reviews have less weight now and doesn't count to the "Overall" score anymore.

The reason for Steam is to reduce the amount of "fake" reviews in return for free keys and I believe that is something good.

I think the execution is poor and I want to discuss other solutions and bring them to attention at Steam's ticket support and in Steam's general forums/suggestion forums.

Please keep the discussion friendly and clean.

Hello,

Thank you all for joining our group "Transparent Review System"

As you already know we try to find better solutions for Steam's review system and want to make a list of the best suggestions, bundle them and send them to Steam Ticket Support.

What we need now is idea's and suggestions and I want to do a GIVEAWAY to encourage all our members to post at least one (or more) suggestions for a better review system.

Tell us what you like and what you dislike from the current system and what improvements you like to see.

All suggestions are welcome!

It works as follows:

Go the group page and click the discussions tab.
In the suggestions / idea's subforum make a new thread with your suggestion.

Every member of the group who makes a new thread with at least one suggestion (it doesn't mind if there are doubleposts) have a change to win one of the following games:

- Stronhold Crusaders 2

- Agatha Christie ABC Murders

- Prison Architect

Do not post your suggestion in any exisiting thread or in the comment section. Feel free of course to discuss suggestions in threads other members make.

Monday October 3 we use a RNG to select the winner
The key is sent to you by a Humble Bundle activation link shortly after and we announce the winners in our group.

If there is anyone who knows more about the rumours that reviews by Steam Family Sharing are restricted to owners of the game now I would like to ask to share that info with our group.

The change they did is really not at all helpful when they still don't include all reviews in the overall score. Its like saying those reviews are just 'random comments on the bottom of some page'. So now, I don't give them an A for effort on going back on a change, because they didn't go back on the worst part of the change.

The new adjustment is *slightly* better, but still...someone who sells niche strategy games with an existing fanbase is at a disadvantage with this new system, given the general demographic of the "average" random Steam user.
