A few months ago I started renting a virtual server to host my public stuff on it. This was also a good opportunity to bring back the old CS:S zombie server once hosted on SwissQuake.

Have a look at http://zombie.helgeby.no. It's a very primitive site at the moment, but enough as a startup project.

This server is located in Oslo (Norway). Unless something very bad happens, I should be able to keep this going for a few years. The balance is not optimal yet, so we need players and feedback to make it better.

For those who don't remember the old zombie server, here's what's making it special:

Focus on fair gameplay
We try to make it fun for both teams to play. Zombies shouldn't be blocked by impossible barricades, since there won't be any reason to attack anymore. That's why we make the server a bit zombie-sided to make it fun for zombie players too. Humans must work together and fight for survival.

Special classes
We have classes with a diverse range of skills to cover most situations.

Zombies:

• Classic: Average zombie, no special skills.
  
• Fast: Fast zombie, but weak and low HP.
  
• Heavy: Very strong zombie with lots of HP, but also slow.
  
• Predator: Weak, but transparent with long-jump (good for surprise attacks).

Humans:

• Normal: Regular CS:S player.
  
• Speedy: Fast human.
  
• Light: Slow human with jump boost. It also has infect immunity below 50 HP.
  
• Stealth: Nearly invisible, but slow. Makes it possible to sneak among zombies.

Plenty of maps (use "rtv" if you don't like it)
I've recovered ~400 maps from backups and added all of them. A lot of them may be bad so we have to re-evaluate those maps. I have already set up criterias in my map assessment spreadsheet to evaluate against (link on server page). Our final options:

• Keep the map if it's good enough for us.
  
• Keep the map if it's possible to fix it. ZR can block areas or make class adjustments in them.
  
• Remove the map (too many RTVs, or generally bad).
