Been a while... but I seem to remember letting her win or lose based on what she did. Like if she picked up the powerup I wanted her to, then I'd let her win, or if she picked up a bad one then I'd try to win. Think that's what I mostly did - telling her "good" or "bad" via outcome of the match.

No clue if that's actually how it works though!
