For me, this really speaks to a lot of my experiences, working in a restaurant and having to answer to the "giant rat." It's not someone who's necessarily better or smarter than you, just someone who's been around for longer.

The rats also "prey at night, stalk at night." To me, this symbolizes a hunger borne of deprivation, and a physical need to prey upon those who steal the Mayan treasure. This is what makes this song a brilliant leitmotif for the rats.
