”SOLDIERS, SALIORS, AND AIRMEN OF THE ALLIED EXPEDITIONARY FORCE… YOU ARE ABOUT TO EMBARK UPON THE GREAT CRUSADE.”

The stage has been set. The Allied Armies of: THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, THE UNITED KINGDOM OF BRITAIN AND IRELAND, THE DOMINION OF CANADA, THE COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA, THE DOMINION OF NEW ZEALAND, THE THIRD FRENCH REPUBLIC bravely struck with all of their might, a massed sum of 150,000 MEN from the combined armies would strike in conjunction with one another along the key points of Normandy Beach known selectively as UTAH, OMAHA, GOLD, JUNO, and SWORD. On the seas, sitting on the English Channel, would be the might of the United States and United Kingdom’s navies – a lump sum of nearly 7,000 SHIPS and 195,000 NAVAL PERSONNEL. Their opposition would be Adolf Hitler’s ATLANTIKWALL (ATLANTIC WALL). The wall, manned by nearly 300 DIVISIONS, served as a relief for German troops who had ben fighting on the Eastern Front, known as THE OSTTRUPPEN. The German garrison varied in composition between those Wehrmacht, Schutzstaffel (Waffen incl.), and Luftwaffe garrisons from the failed SEALION OPERATION. The defenses at D-Day were overseen by FIELD MARSHALS GERD VON RUNDSTEDT & ERWIN ROMMEL the Commanders of ARMY GROUP WEST (B & G). The Atlantikwall, manned by well-fortified naval weapons, sea bunkers, and anti-vehicle hedgehogs and wires set up on the beaches stood ardently in opposition to the Allied liberators. The German High Command, including Hitler himself, believed that the Atlantikwall was a sufficient deterrent for the Allies to leave occupied Europe alone; ultimately buying time for the warfront in the East to conclude, allowing for a renewal of OPERATION SEALION. However, blunders were beginning to be apparent as the eventual date of D-DAY grew ever near. With one major change to the German Defense being the rejection of FIELD MARSHAL ERWIN ROMMEL’S plan to place his Panzer-armies on the beaches, and to scale back the bulk of response units into cities behind the Atlantikwall, such as those in Calais and Rouen.

D-Day had already been delayed by SUPREME ALLIED COMMANDER: DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER due to poor weather conditions. By the first week of June, it was do or die. The invasion had to commence as a form of relief to distract increasing German presence on the EASTERN FRONT and to open a new front in the war, which was discussed in the TEHRAN CONFERENCE…

At 1:30AM GMT (10:00PM EDT), airborne divisions from the U.S. 101st and the British 6th dropped behind the Atlantikwall. 5:30AM GMT (1:30AM EDT), the OPERATION OVERLORD, the codename of D-DAY would commence with approximately 40 MINUTES OF NAVAL SHORE AND AERIAL BOMBARDMENT. By 6:30AM GMT (2:30AM EDT), Allied troops would storm nearly 50 miles of beaches, which ended on the fiercest and single bloodiest day of the Second World War on the Western Front. Veteran and eyewitness accounts foretold of the distinct scent of death, the sheer loss of life, and the carnage on the Normandy Beaches. As men disembarked their landing craft, many lost their lives. Most of them were taken by the frightening development of the German MG-42 which had one of the highest firing rates of any machine gun at that time. Even when damned by wind, weather, and enemy fortifications – the Allied armies persevered and seized ALL FIVE BEACHEADS, storming into Normandy. The invincibility of the GERMAN ARMY was once again shattered for a second time, for the first time on the WESTERN FRONT. It was clear that the end was in sight. Allied flags flew over a previously occupied France. Yet, the German Army still had one last trick up their sleeve…

It is important, and awe inspiring about the journeys these men undertook for the deliberation of freedom and their dedication to the saving of the Free World. It is why our World now makes a point every year to celebrate the D-DAY LANDINGS OF 1944 in our traditions. It symbolizes the victory of the UNITED ALLIED NATIONS over Nazi tyranny. We should do well to remember that most of these men, freshly turned 18, threw themselves willingly into the fray so that we may enjoy the liberties and freedom so provided to us by Almighty God.
