ABOUT No to Early Access

Say no to Early Access games!

Don't you have enough of buying something that may be finished or not? To recieve even less than half of the content with possibility that it's going to change completely? Then read on:

Say NO to Early Acces games!

Why? Here's a few reasons:

  • Most important thing. They don't sell you a game. The "product" which they sell has only a few laws. Yes, you can apply for a refund, but after 14 days from purchase and/or more than 2 hours of game time, you cannot ask for a refund. Basically you're giving it away and "backing up" the company wihout any assurance that you will recieve a full product or that it will ever be released. You have no idea what you're buying and recieving. Content may be changed relatively quickly wihout any charges from the consumer side.

We love to back up good projects oursevels, but then again it does not need Early Access to be backed up. There's (flawed) Kickstarter that covers at least some of lawforms regarding to the developers.

  • Content is not ready to charge for. You're buying a product that isn't even supposed to be a demo. Pre-alpha or beta content should be free of charge especially to reviewers over the internet so they can inform you about the game and it's progress.

  • Marketing these days does not need huge amounts of money.Back before Early Access, companies and small dev's usually sent out alpha copies to reviewers to gain public attention, make demos etc... wihout you, the customer, spending a single penny on it. Why need to pay for something that should be free?

What is Early Access then?

It is basically a system of getting money for the developers of games for something that has been free for years - demo versions.

As far as we remember, demo's were free of charge and usually they were out before the actual premiere of the game and that's in most cases, how companies have managed to get hype for their titles.

Why Early Access needs to be a new "funding" trend? It's tricky, it's bad and flawed. Thankfully, you can ask for a refund, but 2 hours of game time is risiculous for some games (like survival games).

Supporting unfinished games is necessary, sometimes crucial for indie developers but bringing Early Access down WILL NOT KILL THEM it will only make a little bit harder and time consuming for developers to raise their funds in some other way that usually is way more fair for customers than on Steam.

*EA stands for Early Access in every forum, post, thread etc.

Can you fix the spelling error in the group avatar? And the same error occurs in the description.
