Online Test #2 Release Information

Greetings!

The second online test will be rolled out, and it should be up throughout the weekend.

Official play times: 20.02.16 10 AM ~ 21.02.16 10 PM (36 hours total)

There wasn't much new added to the server, but I'm putting up a change log:
Sarcasm intended, change log is big

1. Weapons
- All weapons now have realistic mass attributes. Feel free to experiment and see which one would be most useful for your desired role.
-- Most snipers are rather heavy - make sure you have your spot! No-scope accuracy is also here, so they are probably your worst choice in a close to mid range scenario.
--- Exceptions are: Remington 7615P, Dragunov SVU/SVD, SVT-40, Thompson Contender
-- Pistols are pretty useful if you need to go fast while still wielding a gun, offering less weight than all assault rifles.
-- Assault rifles have their weight mediocre, they can do jobs from any range, except very far.
-- SMGs are a tad heavier than pistols, but offer more firepower. You might find them useful for Run-n-Gun scenarios.
- Intervention had its damage increased to suit its weight and rate of fire

2. Printers
- Implemented a new printer system, divided into 6 tiers.
-- Printers have 2 main stats: Delay and Amount
--- Delay is how often every Delay seconds the printer gets charged up with money.
--- Amount is how much money is put in the printer after every chargeup.
-- Every printer is twice more effective than its lower tier neighbor.
-- An upgrade has 3 upgradables: Speed, Amount and Cooler.
--- Amount and Speed get more effective with each upgrade put in. They generate the same amount of heat however.
--- Speed can be applied up to 3 times. Max level decreases the delay a little bit below twice.
--- Amount can be applied up to 5 times. Max level increases the amount given a bit over twice.
--- Cooler can be applied up to 5 times, and is visible how many are already in the printer. They decrease the heat generated or even cool the printer if enough are inside.
-- If a printer is upgraded at maximum, it has a micron less efficiency than a 2 tiers higher unupgraded printer.
-- Every printer generates heat. Use cooler upgrades to cool down.
--- 1 cooler upgrade can extinguish 7 points of heat, 1 speed or amount upgrade generates 4.
-- Printer tiers are according to CSGO so players can easily adjust to the system and know how tiers are compared to each other.
--- Tiers' official names are: Consumer, Industrial, Black Market Spec, Restricted, Classified, Covert. and Contraband

3. Jobs
- Certain jobs have been updated to have the weapon select feature to them.
- Certain jobs were replaced from VIP menu to the normal jobs menu.
- Black Market Dealer now has many high-caliber machineguns and sniper/anti-materiel rifles.

4. Server machine
- Certain config variables were fixed, performance has upgraded.
- No more CPU logging, as I'm already monitoring this in another way.
-- GMod CPU logging decreased the max potential of the server, so now it should be more stable on the performance side, and probably run faster.

5. Traveling
- Teleporter system was implemented.
-- It can be found at the car expo center.
-- There are 3 teleporters leading to distant areas of the map:
--- First one teleports to the apartments/fast food/gas station area.
--- Second one teleports to the residential area.
--- Third one teleports to the outer rim, where you can find 2 houses and an industrial garage.
-- You get teleported to a teleporter which leads back to the city, it isn't a permanent move to the place!
-- As an anti-grief prevention system, everything that blocks the portals will be removed.
--- Players will be teleported high enough so they don't glitch other players, but also low enough to not take fall damage.
-- You can hear a teleporting sound when teleporting, but it is only clientside, and it affects only you. Sound spam is yours only, use at your own risk.
-- There are plans for making a teleporter to the river bank/forest in the corner of the map, this will be discussed later.

6. Quick Info about Rules
- You ARE allowed to make a contraption that DROPS the money from your printers (and slide them down at a single spot).
-- You ARE NOT allowed to make a contraption that collects the money however.
- This server will be in turn-based RP! Contact icis4 for more info when in-game.

Inviting more players is good for feedback so server can improve.

Online Test #1 Feedback

During the first Online Test, there was some basic feedback on how the server should perform. Generally there were positive reviews, but because of the lack of content, there wasn't much to do.

Server stability proved to be great, even though there was a miniature problem that it used only a single core. RAM proved to be more than enough. HDD, however, struggled at times recording players. I'll have to check that out on how to fix it.

Many players had problems that they couldn't go out of the city in short periods of time. For this reason, a quick teleporter script as added to the server. Fully functional, and even plays a sound when teleporting.
For cars, it is unsure which ones will be in the server, so it's temporarily sticking with the teleporters. By the end of the online tests we should have cars.

People reported that weapons felt really sluggish when held, that included all weapons. I had forgotten to add a property to all weapons that made them realistic and unique, and I had left out a debug value that applied to all weapons, for testing reasons.

An exploit was found with shotguns and the Winchester '73 that if you select one of these weapons and changed back, do this a lot of times, and you get super speed and great jump height, which if high enough deals damage to you when you fall down. The exploit was fixed, as shell-based weapons (shotguns and Win '73) had an overriden "Holster" function.

People LOVED the "Choose weapon on spawn" script. It allowed many players to select their play style with the same job, or choose situation specific weapons. There were no major exploits found with it, but players had some negative feedback that you can't save your choice, and made it kind of annoying when respawning too frequently.
Another problem was that there was a slightly overdone delay between each choice of weapon. This will be fixed in the next online test.
A small exploit was that you could drop your weapon and get it back, though a script should disallow this. It will be fixed by the next online test.

There were M9K weapons that were a bit too over others. Because I wanted to prolong firefights until I make proper balance, I made the damage of all M9K weapons more than twice lower than their default. There were weapons that were stronger than others and more chosen, which is why there is a lot to do on the rebalance.

Since the server was aimed at turn-based roleplaying having me around most of the time, people were doing some really good RPs. I really hope this keeps out throughout the server's life span.

Voice chat was disabled this Online Test. This was to make sure people didn't go fast with their actions doing their roleplay, and because the voice chat integrated in DarkRP is awful in terms of performance. Players had trouble this was gone, but it'll be added within 1 or 2 online tests

And now, the bad news:

Due to my router having severe trouble being stable at wireless (temporarily it is on wireless mode until I get my cables and put it in some place non-disturbing), I had to shut the router down and put it on an old router, which has great stability, but has a low bandwidth and cannot keep up a server. Because of this reason, the server remains local so I can fix scripts and add more content if possible.
