Also, it would be a good idea to look at the default controls and change them accordingly. There is no icon that shows up when you are able to use an item (like in other games), you'll just need to "know" what you can interact with and what you can pick up.
I still have a lot to learn about how this game works, but I think it's pretty fun. Only thing I hate is that sometimes the fire hydrants or whatever the things in the streets are look like people sometimes...
