Remember the pre-orangebox era vortigaunt? The faster shooting, always hitting, kicking, slapping vort that didn't just walk towards you?

But don't worry, we are doing this tastefully. Back in the day maps expected you to be insta killed by a vortigaunt if your suit wasn't charged and at most take 2 hits. They expected the vortigaunt to always hit. And they expected them not to shoot trough fences. They designed their maps around this, map mechanics that have been lost with time because vortigaunts became to easy to where you don't have to actively cover for them.

On those maps we will begin changing the modern vortigaunt back to the classic ones to provide the original challenge the mappers intended.

But on modern maps where there aren't good cover places? There I won't change anything. It will be the same vortigaunt its always been for many years now. So don't worry about getting sniped every second on an open map as most maps will not receive this change.

There are 2 ways for a map to qualify for classic vortigaunts.

1. Mappers add them or request them to be used on their map.
If mappers wish to do this they can use npc_vortigaunt_classic or add classic 1 to the regular npc_vortigaunt.

2. I will add them because I think they are better for that map, this is based on these criterea:
1. The map has fences that the vortigaunts should not be able to shoot trough. Think the christmas event map where we keep getting spawnkilled otherwise. The fences were there as cover and became ineffective after the orangebox update. By changing to classic vorts the maps spawn is restored.
2. The map provides a lot of cover oppertunities to properly protect yourself. Think large boxes, things you can duck behind, corners you can easily turn, etc. This is primarily the case on the very old maps.

If there is a map like coop_stargate that was created in the era of the classic vortigaunt, but doesn't design for them (lot of open space, high up vortigaunts) then they will continue using the modern vortigaunt.

As for the credits? A harder enemy deserves more points, so these will earn you a maximum of 10 credits instead of the usual 6.

P.s. the caffinated powerhouse vortigaunts will probably remain the modern ones. I don't want to make those even more OP and they are quite iconic on that map.
