The Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Restoration Project

Introduction:
Welcome to the Official Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Steam Group. This group's purpose is to maintain a community for the Left 4 Dead 2 E3 Demo Restoration Project. You can view news, updates, and announcements here.

Background:
On June 1st, 2009, Left 4 Dead 2 was officially announced on the E3 show floor. Immediately following, an early Left 4 Dead 2 play-testing build, or beta, was available for those at the event who wanted to try it. While it may have operated like a reskinned version of the game's predecessor Left 4 Dead, hardcore fans noticed the unique assets and attributes this early build had to offer. Unfortunately, Left 4 Dead 2's E3 Beta was never released to the public, and the build was thought to be forever lost, yet the footage surrounding it still remained. Fortunately, Valve permitting custom modding into their franchises, gave content creators infinite opportunities to create their own Left 4 Dead 2 addons, which lead many to develop, restore, or re-imagine Left 4 Dead 2 Pre-release content. On March 3rd, 2012, Gigan developed one of the first-ever Left 4 Dead 2 modding packages to date, consisting of the only beta-themed modifications existing at that time. The Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Pack, was born. Overtime, the Beta Pack evolved into a fully structured project consisting of many more professional modders, designers, and content creators.

This project's purpose is to give the Valve gaming community a close replication of the Left 4 Dead 2 E3 Demo, an early build of Left 4 Dead 2 that showcases many unused designs, features, and concepts. This project allows players to relive the unique Left 4 Dead 2 experience brought to players at E3 2009!

Sourcerer:
Sourcerer is a team consisting of modders, designers, artists, and content creators, all of which share a collective interest in Left 4 Daed 2 and Source engine games. While the Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Restoration Project remains as the forefront of our branding, we also plan to work on additional projects in the future, typically involving similar pre-release concepts. To view all our members, see the discussion below to recognize everyone's contribution to this project's success.

Event - Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Pack: Speed Run Contest

Hello!

The Speed Run Event has been postponed to the following week on January 27th 11:00 P.M EST. Please use this time to ensure you can make it for the following week, as the event will be streamed from multiple players that evening!

The event will take place in the Speed Run Event Discord Stage Chat. Gryphus Will be recording the gameplay and our commentary while Gigan will be streaming to the audience in the Stage Chat. The video playthroughs will be uploaded to YouTube and featured on the Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Project Website!

Rules:
Survivors who complete an EXPERT run of the Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Pack the fastest with the most remaining health win!

Teams MUST have 4 players.

There are only two playable levels.

Only Pain Pills allowed for health recovery.

Each team has only ONE retry opportunity.

A retry can be used even if run was finished.

Timer starts when team leaves safe room area.

Scoring:
Team's points are calculated by remaining health and timing of your team's run.

100 Points for each survivor completion (400 MAX TEAM POINTS PER LEVEL)

25 points for each survivor with health remaining (100 MAX TEAM POINTS PER LEVEL)

25 points for successful runs with a Tank encounter.

75 points for successfully killing the Tank during the playthrough (stacks with encounter points)

Requirements:

Ensure all previous mods are disabled to prevent mod conflicts.
Subscribe to the Left 4 Dead 2 Beta Pack (Parts 1 and 2).
Subscribe to the L4D2 Beta Pack Speed Run Extension.
Create lobby by going to Extras/Play With Friends/Create Lobby

Map: E3 Beta Parish
Server: Local
Lobby: Friends Only

Start when team players have selected a survivor and both spectators give the "go".

Prizes:

First place team will each win a $10 Steam Gift Card and early access to our new and upcoming game mode.

Second place team will earn early access to our new and upcoming game mode.

Third place gets bragging rights.

@Noobster2731 On Gamemaps.com , we have an "Online Edition" posted for this reason specifically (currently outdated - refer to the previous announcements for more information on that issue). This alternate pack grants players a middleground of E3 and retail content. In other words, scripts and menu UI are all removed while any E3 mods left over remain because of the online support they contain. You may download the previous version if necessary. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Will there ever be a version of the modpack without the menu (and possibly also the script) changes for people who wanna play with just the model, sound and animation changes?

@DUD3R0N0M0S I doubt anyone has access to those animations. As far as the pack goes near completion, yes, you can definitely say that. There is still however a bit more work to do and more content to be produced.
