I have to say, When you refer to atheists and agnostics as two seperate groups, It bugs me. I understand that some people prefer to identify as agnostics and I respect that, but they answer seperate questions. Beleif and knowledge. I am sure most people here are aware of the details so I won't bore you. I'm just sayin'

Hey just stumbled upon this group but thought I might mention somethings:

1. Seatbelt is mispelled in the quotes section
2. Another great quote: "Religion is the opium of the masses" -Karl Marx (While Marx wasn't a genius, this quote speaks a lot of truth.)

Guys there's a better argument than the argument about the inactivity of god... It simply goes 'So what.' No one can argue against you when you shove that at them because regardless of what point they make it won't save them from the fact that just because they find their god 'important,' Doesn't license everyone else to find it important.

This is probably the millionth time someone has said this but... 99.95% of atheists are agnostics. The agnostic atheist position is litterally : "I am just not convinced that there is a god." Reversely 99.95% of theists are Gnostics who's position is littereally "God himself can come down and tell me I'm wrong, and in my defense I'll tell him to go ♥♥♥♥ himself because I know I'm right. Nothing can ever prove me wrong, I am Gnostic."

The word gnostic has to do with truth and whoever claims to be gnostic has the truth and can under no circumstances can ever be (proven) wrong.
The word agnostic has to do with truth and whoever claims to be agnostic simply holds the position that they could always be wrong as it's impossible to be 100% certain.

It just gets on my nerves when people can't seem to wrap their heads around simple definitions.

Religon has held our species back thousnds of year, we would have been perfectly fine without it. People waste lives over the absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ people call "Religon". Civilization itself was held back by religion. Religon is the absolute worst thing to ever happen to Humans. Without religion our species would have done so much more things to advance and help ourselves. So to everyone who believes in any religion, its a waste and you are holding down our species.

hi everyone at agnostic atheism. i feel obligated to inform you that atheism and agnosticism are not mutually exclusive, i myself am an agnostic atheist.

agnosticism and atheism address different issues. a/theism deals solely with belief. a/gnosticism deals solely with knowledge.

a gnostic theist believes he KNOWS there is a god. an agnostic atheist believes there is no god BUT DOESNT CLAIM TO HAVE ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY.

@Astronomy Domine - Because there is an important distinction, even in your comments, between belief and knowledge. One (agnosticism/gnosticism) deals with whether or not one claims to know God(s) exist, and the other (atheism/theism) deals with whether or not one claims to believe that God(s) exist.

You can be both Agnostic and Atheist, as you can be both Agnostic and religious. The word "Agnostic" means a lack of knowledge; it's a metaphysical position, stating that something can't be known, and as such is a statement of knowledge. The word Atheism, means a lack of a belief in a deity, and as such is a statement regarding belief, or the lack thereof. As the two words relate to two different things (e.g knowledge and belief) they are compatible. So I can be an atheist, in that I don't believe in a God, yet also agnostic in that I don't deny the possibility of a God existing, which is exactly my position on the matter.

This gives you a chance to persuade a fence sitter to be atheist.

To be agnostic is to believe that it's impossible to ever know if God does or doesn't exist. To be atheist is to believe that God doesn't exist. So how the hell can you be both?

ag = not or without, gnosis approximately = the belief that knowledge is possible about a subject (usually god or religion, depending on context). Therefore a religious agnostic would mean that one believes that knowledge about a given subject, (in this case, god) is not possible.

Oh ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Mia nomo, we don't need your definition for agnosticism. The obvious reason the word is here for is for the true definition of it, which is that you believe in god but yet you don't.

Agnosticism is not a middle ground between Atheism and Theism either. Agnosticism deals with the state of knowledge concerning a specific claim and Atheism and Theism are positions of personal belief or foundations for claims (There is a God. /or/ There is no God.). They are two different concepts. No one is simply 'Agnostic'. Get it right.

One can not simply be an Agnostic. Agnosticism states that certain claims are unknown or may never be known. Atheism and Theism are positions of belief, whereas Agnosticism is a position determining the state of knowledge. I am an Agnostic Atheist because I believe there is no God, but accknowledge that there is currently (and most likely never will be) a way to prove or disprove said God. When some hipster says they're an 'Agnostic', I have to facepalm. So, you're telling me that you believe some claims are either currently unknown or may never be known? Cool, but what claims are you talking about? Do you believe in God or not? You have to make a decision. Either you believe or not. Either a rock is a rock or it is not. Sure, there could or could not be a God. Absolutely, but do you believe there is or not?

Hey guys, I'm an agnostic, but I tend to lean towards the atheist side, but we don't to bash religion like Christianity or Islam.

lol Interesting comments. I'm just an athiest who dun really like to dedicate myself to one religion. Especially Christainity 'cause they really don't have actual evidence to the events that happened. But I do respect mostly if not all religions equally but I will not follow or dedicate myself to em. :D
