A Serious Problem - [Archived Discussion Post]

So far, the experience with the two groups of 4 I've been running as prototypes of the experience as a whole have called to attention something that I need to immediately addresss now, because apparently it's a systemic issue.

Thus far, it's only been three cases of the same issue amongst players -- Ones that are actively not trying to interact and work with the collective of the group and make choices that affect everyone in the session, and ultimately how they interact with everyone currently joining and participating in the steam group; Two blatent offenders, and a fringe case of another player in the same light, albeit in a semi-innocent manner.

See, I know for a fact that at this stage of the community, there are players too adjusted and used to only playing for themselves and by themselves who don't put a group dynamic concept first when they join any co-op session -- leading to multiple cases where players drop out of sessions and almost always because of a combination of selfish behavior and inflammatory abrasion to and against everyone involved for one reason or another;

It's the systemic issue with Terraria Co-Op amonst relatively experienced players: too much experience, and too many players who think they have to rush, sequence-skip, and only concern themselves with what they consider fun, thus making everyone else and the group's needs and desires an afterthought.

This is the behavior that I will not tolerate, and is directly opposing the type of play I'm attempting to encourage here.

It'd be completely different if it was just as simple to handle and prevent if this was a private group that picks and chooses members decided by a core group of founders that are friends with each other in life, or if the complantants that have jumped ship or been booted were 100% correct in saying it's all a covert power trip to only do things how "I want" -- but it's not.

The core founding requirement and quality is players I'm looking for are cooperative players that will interact and play with other T.E.M.Ps members and officers semi-frequently, because we've established from these first sessions that those that are there have shown they understand it's not about them, it's all about the group and including everyone in the fun these individuals I'm referencing is taking from everyone by not communicating thier actions, and actively taking action without people being aware of or in agreement, and doing the most to not participate with everyone.

Because the serious point I'm attempting to get across here is that you need to be prepared to be three things when you come to apply and join in for sessions with this group: Communitive, Collective, and Cooperative: that means you put the group before yourself, and you think of how your actions best benefit everyone, and knowing that it means everyone's involved or no one is;

Because watching one or more players do things without you and the rest of the willing group, and take away from what's supposed to be a fun experience is not fun.

Seeing someone actively waste supplies that didn't need to be wasted because they wanted to use it for themselves or for something that's detrimental for the group is not fun.

Having to run the gambit of someone's intolerance towards others and active defiance of everyone else, and getting to the point where progress can't be made because we can't complete the simple tasks of establishing a base, making rooms, collecting supplies, and making equipment for everyone so we can go have the fun the selfish players are taking is not fun.

Or, to put another way for those thinking "TL;DR":

These sessions and steam group are not and will not devolve into "The 'X' Show, starring you and featuring everyone else in the background behind you."

When you make the choice to join in, you need to be willing to cooperate with the group(s) or it's just not going to work out at all.

The selfish kind of play that too many players do in Co-Op;

(The same behavior that led to me developing this concept, since that behavior and caliber of player are everywhere);

--won't be tolerated by players who are actively trying to work together, and if you're doing this, you're either going to put it behind you and work with us, or be abrasive and passive-agressive with everyone because you think someone or I are trying to control and limit 'your' fun about everything and get removed because we will not want to play with you.

So please, keep that in mind current and future participants:

I'm not trying to be a villian, or state an oppressive mandate -- I'm trying to build the foundation to something great and wonderful, and I'm not going to tolerate and make deals with what I've been seeing and the way people have been behaving thus far.

Either please respect that when you come to join in the fun and play with everyone involved, or do not apply if you believe that's too much on your part to do -- And i'll be dissapointed but respect if there are people who can't do that, because it's not a hard thing to do; you just need to try.

Later days,

- Mr.Randem

Groundrules [Read This, It's Important.]
  • As this group is comprised of players who come from different playstyles, constant inflammatory behavior will not be tolerated past a point. Making a mistake once is fine, doing it 10+ in order because we forget we're playing with 3+ other people is grounds for removal.
  • In every session, we share everything up until the point it's a unanimous decision to split ourselves into new bases we make later on at some point into Hardmode. Until that point though, not even I will make choices that affect everyone without making the group aware of what we're doing. Making these choices falls into the same category of "inflammatory behavior", and again will not be tolerated.
  • Finally, the basic code of conduct from this point onto the future is simple: "Communitive, Collective, Cooperative." -- The Three C's.

    If you doubt a choice you're making during play, consider if it's any or all of those C -- And if it's not, don't do it and ask the group. Constant cases of this kind of behavior is immediate grounds for dismissal and expulsion without warning.

These may seem harsh, but keep in mind I'm building a good community of players that will want to play with each other -- Someone who constatly is combatative against the concept is someone I will not tolerate being here for sake of body count and numbers, and on sheer principle.

--Good day to you all,

Mr.Randem
