ABOUT Team Fortress Film Academy

For the Replaymakers of the Future

A club to show off replays for group criticism and praise. The goal is to improve Replay Filmmaking with exercises on storytelling, editing, cinematography, etc.

What makes a "good" Replay? How do the basics of filmmaking apply here? What's the best shot in certain situations.

The idea of the group is to create well-crafted, replays and allow the group to critique one another on the basis of film craft and quality, not specifically content.

Lesson 1 - The Shot

What makes a good shot, and how does a shot fit into the larger picture?

Lesson 1 will be posted by mid-July, after the July 4th Week.

My goal is to structure this like a class, but make it fun. Challenge, Lesson, Challenge, Lesson, etc.

Until then, I want to know from everyone who joined what they want out of this, and what skills they have and/or want to improve. I'd also like to get the Saxxy Award Winners on board to hear "their story".

Also - this week's challenge:

Tell a story - with a beginning, middle, and end - in one shot. No cuts. Just one, single shot. It could be a still camera, moving, it could be first or third person (or a mix if you're clever at faking). Just tell a single story from one replay, short or long story, but it's probably best to keep it simple.

We'll view them all as a group and vote on the best one - and that will be our player of the week!
