SUMMARY

When Lance’s teenaged son Kyle accidentally dies during a freak masturbatory accident, Lance (a failed writer who teaches poetry at the local high school) tries to cover up the shameful episode by making Kyle's death look like a suicide, complete with a moving suicide note that gets published without his permission. When the note draws sympathy from other students and teachers and how they misjudged his son and the note gets positive reviews and attention, Lance elects to publish Kyle's personal journal as his own writing. When the public embraces the book, Lance seems destined for wealth, fame and greatness. Now, when faced with everything he's ever wanted, Lance must decide if what he wanted was really the right thing.




FILMING INFO

The film crew is set up this week (july 16, 2008) at the former F.A. McDonald School, thanks in part to WashingtonFilmWorks, which had a hand in Goldthwait's decision to shoot here. Since last year, the state has offered financial incentives to production companies. If feature films spend more than $500,000 on expenses such as food, housing and labor, WashingtonFilmWorks will pay 20 percent of the costs back to the production company.

Amy Lillard Dee, executive director of WashingtonFilmWorks, said "World's Greatest Dad" is expected to spend $2 million in the state on local food, labor, transportation and lodging, netting the producers $400,000 in return.
