While I am at it, anyone know why EA via Mass Effect 3, loses the activation key and has to be re downloaded and installed every day?

Protondb publishes their entire database to their git repo under an Open-source license : https://github.com/bdefore/protondb-data . No scraping required.The idea is that since it is crowd-sourced data it belongs to the community. The curator doesn't have to replace protondb (just as it doesn't now). It complements it.

We're not affiliated with ProtonDB and I'm not keen on scraping their site in an attempt to replace them.

The original scope for this curator was only to recommend games that were on the official Valve whitelist, but after awhile with no whitelist updates I extended that scope to recommend certain additional games that have enough data showing they work out of the box.

My goal has never been to automate the curator, review every single game on Steam, or attempt to replace ProtonDB.
