The Black Knights Order (黒の騎士団, Kuro no kishidan) is a group of vigilante rebels founded by Zero that fight against the Holy Britannian Empire. They call themselves the "Heroes of Japan", and are distinct from other terrorist groups such as the Japan Liberation Front, which take hostages and engage in terrorism. The Black Knights Order also opposes criminal activities such as the distribution of the drug Refrain, and rescues civilians, though this may simply be a tactic to increase public support and recruitment.

The Black Knights Order's philosophy is "to fight those who use their power to oppress the weak, and to protect those who are incapable of doing so themselves."

Most of the members are former Japanese, many of whom defected from other rebel groups, though many other nations, even the British, can be found among their ranks. Their emblem is a Geass symbol pierced by a sword. The same emblem was used in the Geass Order spin-off Nightmare in Nunnally. After the ratification of the Allied Nations Charter, the Black Knights became the official military force of the United Federation of Nations.
