we moved the servers a week or so ago, and all the stuff that i thought WOULD go wrong didnt, and all the stuff i thought WOULDNT go wrong did....

the move itself was seamless as the way i set this up i just need to install the OS then copy the game server files over; this was engineered properly many years ago (over 10 years for these servers, so lots of history).

Steam was supposed to 'follow' the move, and although i was skeptical, that part worked as well.

so the only thing i thought i had to deal with was the database servers that run the internal ad system, stamm, admin, bans, comms, and a few other items. The external ad system, donor functions and a few other functions came right up and are working fine from day 1.

But as you all must know by now we had a major lag problem. It only affected this ONE server out of 7 total, so it was a real bitch to find. But i think it has been squashed now - i was just in the server with a few others and zero lag spikes over a reasonable period of time.

I wont bore you with the details, but it was an unexpected problem, and 2nd from last on my list of things that might be causing it - and it was a very long list. Im still not exactly sure why it was only happening on this one server, but thats for another time as long as it is working. but i suspect it was a combination of the map and a system problem, as the other tf2 servers with stock maps never developed the issue, nor did the insurgency, kf2, or other servers. a true edge case if i ever saw one.

for the people who have expressed interest in the move, here are the server details, new vs old.

4 core xeon vs 3 core xeon
8GB memory vs 3 GB memory
3.49GHz vs 2.8GHz
SSD vs mechanical HD
200MB/s iNET vs 1000MB/s

So a much better server, with a lot more abilities. The only degraded spec is the internet connection, but since the server only uses about 5MB speed at most, that should be irrelevant. and i have the option to add more memory and 2 more cores if needed, but i dont think that will be necessary for now.

This lag issue has really killed the free time i had to get the db server up and running, so that is going to be delayed a couple weeks, but in the meantime, everything else should work fine.

give it a try, it should be back to normal.

the server will be moving tomorrow, but your favorites list SHOULD update and you shouldnt even know the difference.

If for some reason steam doesnt do wtf it is supposed to do, then...you will find the server at:

you can either use the console to connect to it, ie
connect games.nbsclan.net:27019

or you can use the server browser to add the server back to your favorites:

add games.nbsclan.net, then see the 27019 server to add.
