Hey everyone!

I just wanted to give a small update announcement about my hand. If you didn't know, I recently injured it badly which meant I couldn't play Unturned in a while. Thankfully, I've made great strides in healing and I'm feeling ten times much better.

With that being said, I got a chance to finally play the hyped map, Russia, that recently came out for Unturned. I went in with low expectations and I was sorta surprised to be met with something I kinda liked and I kinda hated. So, let me jump right in:

RATING: 6/10

What I disliked :

I'll start with what I don't like and wrap up with what I did like. The first thing that I was hoping for was the new ranger weapons to CASUALLY drop like civilian weapons. Nope. Mind you guys, I have spawn rate at max for zombie items/item locations. I was highly disappointed in that and I thought maybe I would find some of them in the Military Base.

Nope. I just roamed around getting Zube's from corspes and teased with Tek ammo or Vonya clips. After another study of the map, I realized the second thing I don'tlike about Russia: There's only ONE MILITARY BASE. This isn't including Silo 22 and I'll touch about that in a few moments.

Reason I got a problem with one military base is that E V E R Y O N E will flock to go there for better equipment. And with the map being so big, whoever camps there and kills any opposition, they're surely going to have a huge head start on anyone else just casually traveling there.

Let's talk about the content in the map, regarding cities and shit. To mean, roaming around looking at everything, I felt like I was just in a larger map of Seattle with the color scaling put to grey instead of normal. Sure, there was somethings unique like windmills and new monuments... BUT MOSCOW LITERALLY HAS EVERYTHING SEATTLE DOES. And I mean to the T.

Finally, Silo 22. Jesus H. Christ that place... I have this love/hate thing for it. To begin with, I was flying over and noticed it's a Deadzone. Thanks Nelson. So I fly back, spawn biohazard shit and walk in the front. I'm greeted with an army of almost never-ending zombies and a Mega. I'll tell ya, I almost died several times just for some loot in there. What I hated was I found out that's EXACTLY where I need to go for the higher grade ranger equipment which fucking sucks since I need biohazard set to even walk in. What I did like about Silo 22 was the fight to get the loot to begin with. If everytime I tried to walk in and there was a small army of asshole zombies with a mega trying to fuck me up... That's my sorta place.

What I enjoyed :

Right off the bat, I know this will be more of a negative thing for others but, I really like the open-ness of the map. It's funny because I complained loudly about large maps having too much fucking space for nothing, and you'd think in a map I really think Nelson put as minimal effort as possible, I actually enjoyed it.

It really shows where Nelson draws his inspiration from: DayZ. As I was walking around, I really took in the open horizon that I was in. Spotting places that players could ambush me. Places where people might hide a base or two. It really felt like I was playing DayZ with just how expansive it was.

It also draws back to what makes DayZ, in my eyes, so great: Death feeling like a true punishment. In other Unturned maps, dying just meant either rushing back to where you died with whatever you could find to kill your assailant. I mean, you can literally run across the map in 20 minutes if you were being casual.

But in Russia, dying has a whole new sort of permenant feeling. You're either lucky enough to spawn just close enough to get revenge or YOU'RE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GODDAMN WORLD. It makes players either more cautious or prone to rage quiting.

I think that's the biggest thing about the map that I enjoyed. Otherwise, I couldn't find myself to like anything else. Sure, new vechiles are nice and locations, but that's just typical of an update; Shit we've all already seen before. I was hoping to have some new content elements and locations that could make the game feel much different than before.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Will I play on this map? Yeah, you fuckers will ask me constantly to or I'll just feel like doing so. Will I enjoy it? Eh, I've stopped worrying about enjoying this game a long time ago... Ever since the umbrella nerf.

Besides all that, I think Nelson really half-assed the map from what he was teasing it off as. In my eyes, it's a glorified Washington map just being bigger and with some Russian themes. I MEAN, EVEN THE MILITARY UNIFORMS ARE JUST SLIGHTLY LESS GREEN TINTED .

I feel that the size of the map is what will be the fun factor, forcing players to embark on a small journey to met up with one another (unless the map has TP to which fucking why play Russia?).
