Steam will not return any items that you feel have been traded unfairly - no exceptions.

If your account were hijacked, and if your items were lost, Steam Support will investigate your account and determine whether to return your lost items or not. Steam Support will only restore items once in an event of an account hijacking.

Steam will not return items that were scammed. Steam asks you to confirm a trade before a deal is made final. It is your responsibility to review the items that you are trading for before accepting any deal.

If you are scammed, please contact Steam Support and create a ticket within the Steam Trading Category. Your lost items will not be returned, but reporting the scammer will allow Steam Support to take appropriate action.

Do not conduct trades outside of the Steam Trade Window. This means do not trade items for cash, gift cards, CD-keys, etc. Stay inside of the Steam Trade Window.

Some tips to ensure safe trading:
Do not rush a trade.
Mouse over every item to ensure that the item/gift's properties are correct.
Pay attention to the trade log while making the trade.
Do not trade items outside the trade window.
Ensure that you are trading with the correct user.

One of the most common scams that we are seeing users perform is offering a Dota 2 Key in exchange for X items/gifts.

Please do not engage in trades with these people as there is no such things as a "Dota 2 Key" to trade for. Dota 2 Keys do in fact exist, but you cannot trade for them so don't engage in a trade with any users offering them otherwise you risk getting scammed. If a user has an extra copy from the ones we handed out they will be able to trade these copies no matter what. If you come across a user that says he has a copy of Dota 2 and says it isn't tradable; he's lying and most likely trying to scam you.

So to summarize, please do not engage in trades with users offering the following:

- A Dota 2 CD Key (Keys cannot be traded in Steam Trading)
- An untradable Dota 2 extra copy**

As some of you may be aware if you use the command /me in Steam chat and type anything afterwards it changes color of the font in the chat window.

Please understand there is NO WAY to transfer Steam Wallet funds through Steam Trading. If a user says they are going to send you money for your items and the text turns blue/green they are trying to scam you.

Please do not accept any of these trades as we will not restore your items to your account.

** If a user is not a trusted user this may be the case. I would not recommend trading with someone that is not yet trusted.
