Hajduk Veljko Negotin

"Glavu dajem Krajinu ne dajem!"
-"I give my head. But not my home!"

Hajduk Veljko Petrović was born in 1780. in the town of Lenovac, in the vicinity of Zajecar. He went to the hajduk at the age of 22. In 1803, he was in the company of Stanoje Glavaš, and later in the company under the leadership of Dušan and Vujica Vulićević. In 1804 he took part in the uprising of the First Serbian Uprising, in 1806 he fought for Belgrade, in 1807 he raised the rebellion of Black River and Kriva Viru, and in 1809 he defended Ban from the Turks. It was decorated with the golden Russian Order of Courage in 1810. That year, he was most prominent in the battle of Varvarin, in which the Serbian insurrections in 1811 were won, he became the Duke of Vojvodina and the leader of the Timok region. He died in the battle for Krajina and the city of Negotin in 1813. For a long time, Hajduk Veljko Petrovic with his army managed to prevent Turkish soldiers from penetrating the city, but while he was traveling around Negotin and fought soldiers, he was hit by a cannon ball "in the middle of the shoulder."

This group was made in memory of a great Serbian hero who would never surrendered no matter how bad the situation was.
