ABOUT Do Not Click

A guide on not getting IM hacked.

First off I want to make something clear. Being invited to this group does not mean you need this information personally. Some of you are very knowledgeable in these fields. The reason you were invited was to help spread the word to those who need it and those who don't so they can send it in the same fashion. Being invited is not an insult in any way. Now with that out of the way.

The purpose of this group is to stop getting "OMFG DOWNLOAD THIS FILE. ITZ SO AWESOM" messages from you guys. First off I will explain how these spread systems work then I will explain how to avoid being taken for a ride by them.

If everyone on steam read this and followed it we wouldn't have to worry about spread chains but I'm incredibly doubtful that will happen. This guide will be written in parts because of character limits and I'll get to the next parts when I get the chance to do so.

Note: Pressing middle mouse will open these urls into a new window for easier viewing.

Part 1 - How they work
Part 2 - Why they work
Part 3 - How to stop the spread
Part 4 - Getting the word out

Extras (These are optional but contain more information if you are interested):
The dangers of XSS - Part 1
The dangers of XSS - Part 2

PHISHING - Avoiding the bait

Dear Sir,
strictly confidentialIt gives me a great deal of pleasure to write you this mail and even when it might come to you as a surprise. My name is Paul Kunert. I am a client services manager with a bank here in Europe. I would like to use this medium to ask your assistance.
I have in the course of my duties come in contact with an account that has been inactive for some years now and a careful investigation proved the depositor of the funds died five years ago. All attempts to reach the supposed beneficiary of the deposit were fruitless and before it is forfeited to the state, can you assume next of kin? I look forward to hearing from you.

Respectfully yours, Paul Kunert

Ok more information on the new spread chain.

Apparently one of its functions is turning the host into a slave similar to a vnc. Translated: the hacker can access your computer screen and control the computer if he decides to do so. Other functions include spyware background processes and information stealers.

New spread chain is up. Not much is known on this one yet but it appears to use a trojan generation system to appear unique to antivirus software.

We have a new spread chain up and running. This one appears to steal your steam inventory items and load a backdoor trojan keylogger.
