Hey everyone! I just wanted to share some news of some exciting new changes that will be LIVE as of Friday December 4th.

This will be a quick overview of some of the recent gameplay updates to Dark Nexus Arena and an introduction to some new game mode features.

Wracks

Wracks have been improved in Dark Nexus Arena and will be continually refined in future stages of development. The Wracks are designed to act as a natural obstacle of the arena, and a threat aside from other players. Killing Wracks still gains Favour that players can use to purchase Wargear and improve their strength.

Some improvements include:

Wrack models have been updated to feature higher-fidelity art
Wrack behaviour has been improved to feature better prioritization of targets
Wracks are no longer ‘team-based’ and instead target all players
Wrack spawning occurs ‘off-screen’ and is decentralized
Wrack pathing has been improved

The Dark Nexus

The Dark Nexus is a menacing Dark Eldar relic at the center of the arena. It is also the ultimate object of victory for both teams.

Each team seeks to offer captured souls as tribute to the Dark Nexus to ensure their victory.

Pickups

There are various pickups that have been added to the game. These pickups shake up gameplay and require more area control from players.

Pickups will be continually tuned and changed to further develop gameplay.

How to Play

Each team gathers and collects the ‘souls’ of enemies they fell and offers them as tribute to the Dark Nexus in the center.

When a player kills another player they will accrue a number of souls.

This value scales exponentially with more kills that have been achieved when on a kill-streak.

Any player with souls can offer them as tribute at any time by standing on the center location of the Dark Nexus for a short duration.

If a player dies holding souls they will lose all of the souls they are currently holding and the enemy that killed them will receive a portion of the lost souls.

Once a team has offered 50 souls as tribute to the Dark Nexus they win the match.

Why Move Towards This Gameplay?

The purpose of our last phase of development was to strengthen and add incentive to the overarching ‘goals’ of the game.

As a team we were happy with the direction of our combat and wanted an objective system that facilitated and also supported it. We knew that this needed to be tied in to the combat of the game itself. We also wanted to begin to strengthen the background ‘lore’ of the game when bringing in new objectives.

Finally, we believe that our recent changes allow us to focus more clearly on defining our own ‘signature’ style of game.
