Coronaviruses (Latin: Coronaviridae) is a family of viruses that includes in January 2020 40 types of RNA-containing viruses, combined into two subfamilies that affect humans and animals. The name is associated with the structure of the virus, the spine-shaped processes of which resemble the solar corona. The purpose of the “corona” in coronaviruses is related to their specific mechanism of penetration through the cell membrane by simulating “fake molecules” of molecules to which transmembrane cell receptors respond. After the receptor captures a fake molecule from the “crown”, it is forced by the virus into the cell, and behind it the virus RNA enters the cell.
