ABOUT Boycott Buying Workshop Mods

We Will Not Buy Mods From The Steam Workshop

What we are against
  • Valve taking money from modders (75%!)
  • No system in place to stop stolen mods
  • No system in place to limit low-effort mods
  • Overpriced "micro"transactions.
  • No guarantee that the mod will be patched if an update happens.
  • Modders lose rights to their mod after uploading.
  • 24 hour return policy which does nothing to ensure that a mod is compatible. Errors may only become evident days after "purchase."
  • Not even a minimum guarantee of Quality Assurance. At least developer-produced DLC is expected to have gone through QA.

There is a distinct difference between accepting donations for your work and demanding money for your work. We should not have to pay for community content like this.

What We are OK with
  • A donation system.
  • Perhaps a "stamp" system, like TF2, to purchase and distribute support
  • An escrow system to ensure that money raised by a stolen mod is distributed to the proper developer.
  • A more equitable distribution of money to the developer. 75% seems a bit high for "bandwidth" and "distribution," when the Workshop continues to support free mods with the same operating costs.
  • A curator system for only professional, high quality mods

Nominate TESV:Skyrim SE for The “Write-In” Award with the custom category of...

The "Rapacious Publisher" Award

With the current Steam awards we as a community have a unique opportunity to publicly condemn the actions of Bethesda Softworks/ZeniMax Media and the 'Creation Club' in a way that will be heard.

If enough people write in the same exact category and game Steam will have no choice but to recognise and publish the result.

Rapacious means 'Aggressively greedy and or grasping'. Rapacious being neither slang nor otherwise offensive will not violate Steam's anti-vulgarity regulations. This makes 'Rapacious' the perfect word for the Creation Club being both descriptive and appropriate.

Please spread the word amongst your friends, through Steam groups and on Social Networking hubs.

Use the exact wording...

"Rapacious Publisher" without quotation marks in the write in text box.

Do not miss out on this rare opportunity to be heard!

@Digby.exe Nah, we just haven't been nearly loud or aggressive enough. Many are still realizing this is a problem, while many more will learn. As much as abuse the gaming masses have put up with over the past decade with absurdly-overpriced DLC, on-disc "DLC", offline gameplay with online-only DRM, pre-order scams, season pass scams etc etc, there is only so much abuse consumers of video games can take. Larger portions of consumers will continue to get more pissed off as this continues. As they continue to take more and more out of our wallets for less and less, the gaming industry continues to recruit more numbers to our cause.

The war is only beginning.

Need a group that lists games that locks the game files of games that absolutely bars any kind of modification idk. I mean list everything from M$ on the Windows Store as that is what UWP does giant DRM. It might be time that I mark a year where I stop buying games from there onward.
