The 1950s Era- Australia Post-War
Post-war era Australia was a time of extreme economic development for Australia, as society then was held back by the effort of war. The immediate period after, the 1950s, brought the emergence of icons that are now staple in current day-to-day life. For example in the 1950s saw Australia’s launch of the Holden and Victa lines, and the beginning Kelvinator, Frigidaire and Westinghouse brands. The population grew from 8 million to 10 million in the 50s decade and television was commercially launched with the Television Act. This periodical boom is the first step towards modern standards.
Without the 1950s, Australia would not enjoy the icons that it has today. In 1951 Holden of Australia had maximized its production to 100 cars per day, primarily the FX model Holden patented two years prior and then two years later the FJ Holden which was an even larger success than its predecessor. Cars were largely embraced during the 1950s, due largely to the end of WWII which ended petrol rationing in Australia. The Australian government added to this car. The validity of the Holden icon is held true by the fact Australia’s best-selling car was the Holden Commodore for years and Australia’s first car made locally was the Holden FX. It is a solid idea and it is an enduring, old one as well.
It was used in the 1950s to disseminate important news as it is today and with the television’s creation, the television act stemmed from it. Through this 1953 act the first commercial TV channel was created in Britain. Without the television, Australia would have been able to see the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in England following the death of King George. TV also showed the 1954 of Dame Edna, a character only recently retired. TV was a momentous event of the last century and without the TV to put the ceremony out there many would have missed out on moment in history, but TV was in homes and now has cemented its place in the household.

Sports was a large source of entertainment through victories at the then Empire Games, the Commonwealth Games, Davis Cup and at the Olympic Games. This now longstanding entertainment now draws people together in large numbers.
Following the return of male combatants who were away at war for the duration of WWII, the 1950s Australia went through a ‘baby boom’, that required a corresponding increase in housing projects. The idea of a dream home was then established and has endured, adapted and up scaled to fit modern ideas.
In 1956 the major nerve point of NSW business, Sydney, was given an access point at Circular quay through the creation of the train terminal. Without this major station, hundreds of thousands of visitors would have to rely solely on bus and taxi routes on streets. The following stations beyond Circular Quay would never have been built, proving beyond doubt that the building flux of the 1950s is vital to Australian trade.
