The Swiss

The 3rd Swiss regiment is the result of the capitulation concluded on September 27, 1803 between France and Switzerland for the lifting of 4 regiments of Line of 4000 men each. These units replaced the former Helvetic half-brigades recruited in 1798. The 3rd Swiss regiment was founded in September 1806 and placed under the command of Colonel Louis de May. It is first of all confined to Lille. In December 1807 its strength was barely 3000 men. It was that same year that Colonel Louis de May received his Eagle.
