the Garde-Schützen-Bataillon have their origin in Principality of Neuchâtel in Switzerland a place with apersonal union with the kingdom of Prussia, until the area got taken by the France under Napoleon and by 1807 they had to serve in the grand armée where they got there nickname Canaris (Canaries) because of there yellow uniform, until Neuchâtel got in Prussian hands and the Garde-Schützen-Bataillon was formed as a special battalion for the service of the Prussian king. were it remains in service until the end of the WWI
